Steri-Pen?

So what do all you guys do if the water isn't clear.

Use a filter, steripens need clear water to work, so if there is stuff in the water you can use a dirt or gaiter to filter that out then steripen but if the water is cloudy then other methods need to be used, aka filter, boiling, or tablets/drops

The Steripen works just fine in clear water. People think that there needs to be sediment or 'floaties' in the water to reflect the UV rays; there doesn't. The light is able to purify the water by killing the microscopic 'floaties' that are bad for you. just make sure to have it in the water for the proper amount of time and that you stir it well. They are super light and nice to have.

We just posted this video on Steripen a couple days ago: SteriPen Adventurer Opti - How to & Product Review - YouTube

They all work great, but the Ultra is a personal Favorite: SteriPen Ultra Water Purifier

Hope that helps. :)

I used my Steripen Adventurer for the first time this weekend. Wow what a wonderful addition to my kit. It's just so nice to have instant water and I did a side by side taste test with water treated with my standby Chlorine Dioxide tabs. The tab treated water tastes pretty much just like city water while the Steripen water tasted more like Evian with minerals and all! Just wonderful and refreshing tasting!

Very happy with it.

And yes it worked just fine in super clear water.

I'm interested in these also, my question is what if you had drops of contaminated water say on the cap or sides of the bottle, would it be possible to get the whole bottle contaminated again after closing the bottle? Just a thought, i'm sure they work as many people have success with them but just wondering how careful you have to be.

I've cut in half a water bottle that my Nalgene bottle nests in. I use this to pour untreated water into both my bottle and bladder. If you use your drinking bottle to scoop water then yea you are going to want to wipe clean the rim prior to treating.
