Early sunset now - any walking, running or biking on the roads at/after dusk requires you wear bright clothing with reflective straps and use adequate lighting/blinkies. More than half of the people that I see wear dark clothes and have no light. College student girl was run down last night and it was 9 hours before someone called it in-rip.
Make sure your family/kids understand the need for this.

My oldest GS lost his other Gpa to a tragic accident while running after dark.
I practice extreme caution even on gravel roads. Fortunately traffic is nearly nonexistent.

Great reminder and sad to hear about this tragedy. However, in my experience it doesn't matter what a runner is wearing, people are either asleep at the wheel or jacking around on their phones. I've quit most road running as a result, but would estimate only 25% even recognize a runner with reflective gear and a large light on, running into traffic. Most drivers don't scoot over and I can see their interior lit up like a Christmas tree.

100%. I run with a headlamp on in the mornings and would have gotten hit by a car rolling through a stop sign yesterday. They look briefly for cars but keep on going. I always slow down/stop at street crossings for that reason. I also prefer to run in the bike lane in the street as opposed to the sidewalk, because there is no way anyone is looking at the sidewalk and going to stop before the stop sign.

It's definitely a culture issue here in the US - people in cars feel entitled and don't think twice about pedestrians.

Well shoot. I went and about died today. Running in my neighborhood in daylight just now. Car had the stop sign and was slowing down approaching it. We make eye contact and I keep running(i never stopped). Im center of hood as she accelerated and I plant a hand on it and surf my way across. The look on her face told me we indeed did not make eye contact. No big deal I kept rolling without a word.

In hindsight I was in a hurry and normally would of just went behind her.
