St Louis

Was wondering if anyone had some must see/do in the St Louis area? Unexpectedly headed down there next week for a bit. Did a forum search and not much came up. All I know of St Louis is from the Country Grammar by Nelly. He seemed to of really liked the area. Willing to drive up to an hour or two away if there’s something cool. Will have two kids under 13 in tow.

The arch is kinda cool. Watch the movie on the building of it. Have Italian food in the Hill region. If you want an unbelievable steak, go to Kreis's on Lindbergh. If you're into zoo's the one in the park is pretty nice. Used to live there.

My kids enjoyed Grants Farm, the zoo, the arch, and the magic house (interactive children’s museum), though they were a bit younger than yours while we were there.

Book a tour of Anhueser Busch. Even if you are not a beer drinker, it is a great tour. Clydesdales and everything.

Then do a tour of Busch Stadium. Gotta see the home of the Cardinals. Also hit the Arch, Landing and eat some Italian at the Hill. Home of the only true Toasted Ravioli

Oh yeah, forgot about the toasted ravioli. Love it. And if you want some of the best Buffalo Wings you'll ever eat, they are at Mattingly's on Lindbergh just north of I270. I go back to deer hunt on my property every year now and never miss Mattingly's.

City Museum, which is not actually a museum, but a parents’ nightmare of tunnels and passages and whatnot that kids love.

I’d probably do Grants Farm over the zoo. I’m just not a big zoo guy, you are usually far away and only get glances of animals.

I haven’t been to the Science Center since I was a child but have heard good things.

If you want to do some hiking the Fredericktown Ironton area is 1.5 hours away and has numerous excellent short and long hikes: Elephant Rock, Tieman Shut Ins, Castor River Shut Ins, Hawn State Park, Pickle Springs, Taum Sauk, Johnston Shut Ins, Sam A Baker, and I know a couple others that I can share but won’t post publicly as they are still somewhat hidden gems.

This! Just get the whole rack of Pappy's spare ribs for yourself and skip the other meats. Sweet potato fries are okay.

Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum is worth a stop if you are a baseball fan.

Get a Gooey butter cake while in STL.

Been there for concerts a few years in a row now. Last summer we found our way into the Soulard neighborhood. Awesome live jazz scene. I’m not a jazz guy by any means but it was a great, authentic atmosphere.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend frozen custard at Ted Drew’s.

I’ve had frozen custard at many different places. Theirs is the best. One of the few things I miss from growing up in St. Louis since moving away.

If you haven’t tried St. Louis style pizza, it’s worth a try. It’s very hit or miss with folks. I really like it. IMOs is the biggest name but not the only place.

If you like wings, find a Sybergs. They have a unique, saucey style (and also have STL style pizza) and is run by a great family I grew up with.
