Baits just not my thing Nick. Nothing against people who do it, just prefer spot and stalk myself :)

Me too but I also like to kill one every year... DIY Baiting is more work than most think.

Bear tags are also cheaper in Idaho than Montana for a NR... 20-30$ in several units that border Montana.

Hunting the snake for spring bears is one of my favorite hunts (pic below)!!!! Just wish we had spring hunts here in CA.

Yeah, they should open up a spring season to meet the remaining tag quota left over from the previous fall season if there are tags left over (seems like it might be a good number of tags left over from this season)...

Not that I won't have plenty of chances to look for both black and grizz this spring with the trips Luke has planned anyway, but I am contemplating doing a short solo trip on my own this spring. After all our trips together, I am finally feeling confident enough to take off on my own for a night or two while Luke is at work. It won't be easy, and if I kill something I will likely be making multiple trips as it's unlikely I can get the meat and hide out in a single load on my own. If I don't kill one I will have a great time exploring a gorgeous area. Seems like a fun challenge and the next step in my evolution as a hunter....we'll see if I can make it happen.

Not going to apply for any NE Oregon units this year. Pulled Sled Springs last year so no points for this years draw. Going to just buy and OTC SW tag.

You'll be just fine....only thing I was around for is moral support and to keep you warm out night..just means you'll have to pack another quilt to double up to keep warm ;)

I'm sure you will do great Becca. The first time solo is the toughest, it gets easier after that. :)

Grizzly and black bears off the road system near the house (with in a 3 to 5 hour drive) and flying down to Kuiu for some black bears as well next spring. Its all OTC to might as well right? :D

I killed a very big black bear on POW on a spring hunt a few years ago--cool hunts down there.

You hunted with a SW tag at all in the past? I have an uncle with lots of land owned by his logging company. Trying to decide if I will do that or not?

Hope to get lucky enough to draw this year. Never hunted bear in the spring, only august. Washington guys, do you know how many points you generally need to draw?

For sure you NW guys (OR, WA) should be looking at AK. Especially the SE part. Airfare or the drive from there up would be nothing. Heck, throw your truck on a Ferry out of Bellingham, WA. and make a trip out of it. You could Spot and Stalk, or load your truck up with bait and have a blast. If I lived closer I sure would but CO is just a bit too far so I just fly up when I do it.

POW would be great but with the draw in place these days, you could hit surrounding islands or areas and kill some great bears. Plus the bears in the SE are giant compared to most places in the US. At least on the average.
