Space Blanket

Ah, I never thought of that. I bet it works better than a trash bag for a ground cloth plus it serves dual purpose. One less trash bag to carry!

I also carry two. Spent a long night in the rain with just one and decided a second would have been handy

I am going to start carrying the Adventure Medical Kits - SOL two person emergency blanket. It is a little bigger and heaver than a space blanket but the material is much more durable. With a little duct tape and cordage you can erect a pretty decent shelter in a pinch. Plus, it will also function as others mentioned as a ground tarp. At $6-7 it isn't that much more for something that is big and durable.

I don't know about everyone else, but at least once a year, I take my pack and dump all the crap on the floor. Then I go through it all and ask myself, "Do I really need that and have I ever used it." For some reason, the space blanket always stays. So.....I'll most likely be doing that in about a month and the space blanket will once again be carried miles and miles.
