I've had pretty good luck with sportsmans here in Chico. yah the guys at the gun counter can be a little too yahooo'ish. But what gun counter isn't like that? I know that like everywhere else in the country there are still supply chain issues. For the most part they carry pretty damn good products, price is fair and the people who work there are reasonably knowledgeable.

as a side note... I hunt a ton of quail and had no idea a valley quail call was even a thing... learn something new every day.

We got our Sportsmans in Southwest Florida about a year ago I think... I will say the fly fishing section never has a shortage of trout gear...

Lol at crappie fishing....even if you live in the midwest, crappie and bluegill fishing is the blue balls of the fishing world. That and ice fishing.

I miss the prime SW days for sure. I didn't know that about the merger/buyout so that makes sense about how disrupted the stores seem to be all the time.

Hey now, dump on crappie and bluegill fishing all you want, but ice fishing is church in the upper Midwest! I miss the hell out of it! AK winters would be 10x better with something similar.

im pretty sure Alaska is offering a lot of good ice fishing even not for crappie. i know a lot of good people that will go church on sunday morning then will go on some our lovely lakes or frozen rivers for ice fishing gospel ...
