Sore throat from cold weather camping

Was reminiscing about issues I had during my first elk hunt this year. One in particular that I couldn’t think of a good remedy for was having a sore throat one night after camping outside when it got down into the 20’s.

I feel it was specifically from the cold weather as once we got up and moving the next morning it went away. Through out the night I remember trying to keep a hoodie or shirt over my face. Seemed to help a bit but definitely a very uncomfortable feeling when you first wake up.

How have you guys combatted this? I can’t be the only one whose struggled with this?

Have you tried a thin buff pulled above your mouth and nose - one you can breathe through but would warm the air as it passed through the trapped warm air inside?
Don’t rule out the possibility that you are snoring more than normal due to a different sleeping position. if you’re a snorer, you could try something that keeps you on your side or elevates your upper body and head.

Sleep on your side so you keep your mouth closed. It’s from mouth breathing or snoring while you sleep.

I’ve had it when slightly dehydrated in cold weather - for me the solution was as simple as drinking more water, but to some extent it’s impossible to get away from cold air irritating the throat.

I think it's the same for me as mentioned above. If I get dehydrated AND sleep in the cold I'm almost sure to get a bit of a sore throat. I take a few Halls cough drops to have in case but also try to drink more water during the day.
