Looking at getting a solar panel kit mainly to charge my phone. Any recommendations? Was looking at the solarmonkey adventurer. Anyone use this?

I have a Goal Zero, love it! Works really well, though it weighs about 1.5 pounds. Really nice though, if sun is out, you have power. Also have a New Trent, use that for short trips, say 4 days or less. Would likely last longer than 4 days, but I don't chance it. No experience with the Solarmonkey.

I use the Goal Zero also. The one thing that kept me from the Snow lizard is that in order for it to get a charge it needs to be left in the sun. That means a few things for me. I would have to leave it at camp for the day while I hunted which means no phone while Im out hunting when I really need it. Or hang it off the pack or shoulder harness while I hunted and in dark timber areas where Im at alot of times in the field that isnt feasible as it wont charge without direct sunlight. Also if your in direct sunlight while hunting and have that hanging off you to get charged it can reflect the light at your intended target spooking them.

So with the Goal zero or other panel charging systems You charge your battery pack all day left at camp, come back for the night and hook phone to charged battery pack. you have full battery next day. Rinse repeat.

This is a scenario Ive played out before buying a charging system. These days I take my Goal Zero and to save weight I charge my Morphie up with the panel directly. This saves the weight of the Guide battery pack as the Morphie weighs less.

Just something for you folks to think about.

I have been looking at goal zero also. The thing I liked about the solar monkey was built in battery pack and less weight.

yep I thought about that too CA. My thought though again was if I want to charge the spare battery in the Snowliz Id have to still leave it at camp to charge leaving my phone out of a case. I still wasnt good with that option either. 700$ for an Iphone 5s 64 gig thats not something I want to see ruined.

I have the Goal Zero Switch 8 setup & can't say enough good things about it. Charge the battery during the day, recharge the phone at night, ad-nauseum.
It just works!
The good thing about the Goal Zero is the availability of accessories. I like the fact that I can upgrade to an AA battery charger.

I have the solar monkey and really like it. The combination of the internal power pack and small size/weight sold me over the GZ. Lots of reviews on the web that led me to the adventurer.

Thanks. I guess I misread your post and read that you got the Goal Zero panel for $22. Rereading I see my error.
