I recently purchased this online course and I just wanted to post a review for people who are thinking about buying a subscription. First off, I’ve been bowhunting with a recurve for the last ten years and prior to buying this course subscription I was happy with my bareshaft tuning method, with which I further verify by shooting through paper and follow up with slow-mo video. I’ve never really had a problem tuning my bows and it was never too difficult for me to understand tuning concepts that I read about on the internet. This method has never let me down, but I’m always looking to improve any part of my shooting. After constantly hearing the buzz about this course and how it’s the “ultimate masterclass on tuning” and that it’s going to elevate my tuning to the next level I purchased a subscription.
For the most part Cody and Matt do a decent job of explaining all the various tuning methods and they also go into bow geometries as well as archery gear and how each piece of gear may affect your overall shooting/tuning. But, if I’m being frank, this was a very basic overview of tuning. If I’m being even more honest, I wish they would’ve spent a little more time explaining things in greater detail, for example I felt like they didn’t explain bareshaft tuning well enough. It also seemed like they were a little pressed for time because some of the modules seemed rushed.
There is only one concept discussed in this course that I have never come across on the internet, and I will not repeat that concept here out of respect for Matt and Cody, but as I tried to implement this concept into my tuning process I did not observe the results that they talked about and quite frankly I’m a little skeptical about its validity. Other than that there is nothing really new or ground breaking in this course and I came away from this course with nothing gained as I can achieve the same results as Cody and Matt by tuning my bows the way I have always tuned them.
Overall, it’s not a bad course but I personally feel that you don’t need to buy this course to learn how to tune a bow. This course seems to be made for people who either have a hard time grasping tuning concepts or for people who are very new to single-string archery, but if you can already achieve bullet holes through paper and can group bareshafts with fletched shafts, you might want to skip this one and put your $200 towards hunting tags.
