So I purchased the Precision Tuning course from The Push…here’s my honest opinion.

I recently purchased this online course and I just wanted to post a review for people who are thinking about buying a subscription. First off, I’ve been bowhunting with a recurve for the last ten years and prior to buying this course subscription I was happy with my bareshaft tuning method, with which I further verify by shooting through paper and using slow-mo video. This method has never let me down, but I’m always looking to improve any part of my shooting. After constantly hearing the buzz about this course and how it’s the “ultimate masterclass on tuning” and that it’s going to elevate my tuning to the next level, I gave in and purchased a subscription. The long and short of it is I came away very disappointed. I admit perhaps I expected something ground breaking because I respect both Matt Zirnzack and Cody Greenwood and I’ve always been a fan of The Push Archery, but this failed to hit the mark with me. Although Matt and Cody do indeed go over all the basic methods of tuning in great detail as well as discussing different bow geometries and going over bow setups, my dissatisfaction of this course comes down to the fact the they are charging $200 for a subscription for information that is otherwise free on the internet and YouTube. There is only one concept discussed in this course that I have never come across on the internet, and I will not repeat that concept here out of respect for Matt and Cody, but as I tried to implement this concept into my tuning process I did not observe the results that they talked about and quite frankly I’m a little skeptical about its validity. Other than that there is nothing new or ground breaking in this course and I came away from this course with nothing gained as I will continue to tune my bows the way I have always tuned them. Again, it’s not a bad course but I personally feel that you don’t need to buy this course to learn how to tune a bow. The bottom line - if you know how to do a google search then type into the search bar “group tuning,” “walk-back tuning,” “bareshaft tuning” and “paper tuning” and put your $200 towards hunting tags.

Thanks for this. I have always been a little skeptical of all these very expensive online courses that don’t have any in person coaching. Not that some of them can’t be good. I just think a lot of us who are dedicated have already figured that information out.

I found value and enjoyed the course. A benefit is that there is a lot of information all in one spot and organized in a way that they felt would be best consumed. There is a lot of good info for all levels. I could be wrong but the authors will interact with you if you have specific questions or issues.

They put a lot of time and effort into to producing the course so I’m not sure why it should or would be free. Also, if there is a market at that price then giving it away for free seems unlikely. I do find myself hesitant with courses like this, perhaps it is the price.

I think the price is almost right. $200 doesn’t get you very far these days. I purchased it when it was released which was 3 years ago. I plan to rewatch some.

Everyone’s mileage will vary, and if you found value commensurate with the $200 price tag then there’s nothing wrong with that. But I still stand by what I said, that this information was already available before this course came along and you don’t need to pay $200 to learn how to tune a bow when you can easily do it with a simple google/youtube search.

Lots of quality shooting info on the internet for free if you search. Tom Clum, Jake Kaminsky, etc....but you can't blame these guys for trying to monetize it.

They are taking advantage of the fact that , few want to work or search for something- people want it handed to them...and these guys are providing that service.

I agree with you, I’m certainly not blaming them for trying to make money, perhaps my post seemed like that but it’s not the case. If there’s a market and people are willing to pay for this info then good for them.

Yeah, thats the good thing about forums like this, people can search and find quality info like your commentary.

The bad thing about forums is you get a lot of, "Mine is better" most guys tend to do the opposite of what you did and justify their spending.

I bought it a couple years ago out of curiosity more than anything. I have been at this game a long time and I have a good tuning method that works for me through many years of trial and error. I also like to learn how others are doing it as well.

So I did pick up a couple nuance in tuning that they explained very well. However there was nothing major in the program that I didn’t already know about.

If you are new to tuning I would recommend. If you have a good tuning method I don’t think it is worth the $
