I’m having my bull tahr mounted as a wall pedestal and I wanna add a little bit of snow to some rock habitat. The taxidermist is advising me that the snow is gonna not look great after a few years and will require cleaning as it will start to turn brown as it gathers dust over the years

Haven’t really thought about that, but wanted to get others opinions who may have had snow habitat on their taxidermy mounts. Below is a picture of how I’m having the animal mounted. As you can see, there’s not a whole lot of snow added to the rock feature, but it is something I would like to have. Just not sure if it’s gonna look poor down the line and require me to do some work that will mess up the snow and how it looks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.IMG_3790.jpeg

I don’t think a little bit of snow like in your pic is going to turn brown. It will look good with or without. I used foam quite a bit for snow by grating it like cheese when I was a taxidermist. Never had issues.

Depends on what he uses for snow...but keep it clean with a low vacuuming or blow it off with some air. I know a few people with artificial snow on mounts that are up to 20years old. As long as they weren't sitting in open sunlight and taken care of they look fine.

In 10yrs if it starts to look bad take it off or have it redone. I say if you want a little snow put a little snow on it.
