8’ piece of barn wood will fit 4 big euro racks. Took 7/8” oak dowel and sanded to fit into back of skull for custom fit then bore the dowel into the board. The skulls fit nice and flush.

I forgot to add that the nice part about the dowels is that you can pull the racks right off from them to hold/admire.

I'll add one to the mix here - just finished the final assembly. I made the pack myself, even steam-bent the wood spars. Hardware, grommets, rope, webbing, and fabric from Amazon, wood and stain from Home Depot. Neighbor donated the snowshoes. Turned out great for a lower-cost solution and the whole hide is still there in case I ever want to do something different with it.
