Small shank savage rechamber to 7 saum?

I’ve got a savage SA short shank that I’m thinking about turning into a 7saum. I know I’d need a new bolt face and barrel, and there’s probably some magazine kinks to work out, but is a short shank safe for a short mag/prc cartridge or is that a long shank only deal? Haven’t found anything conclusive in my research and I’m very attached to my extremities.

What makes you say that? The action length for 7saum, accuracy concerns, savage action slop or what?

Several reasons. The savage is small shank. Typically the short mags are built on large shanks. Will need to find a bolt head. If you get a savage head you’ll need a new firing pin. A ptg would work but they are hard to find and ptg is a pain. Mag length is a concern but not huge. It’s jut a lot of work when you can get a bighorn action or a tikka action.

It is going to take a lot of work and money to make something that will shoot very much like a Tikka 270 WSM.
