How did you time it yourself? Slowly stone off a few thou and check fit, repeat?

Yeah, I think I used 600 grit sand paper, if I remember right. You have to be careful not to take off too much at one time because it comes off pretty fast, so it's best just to take your time and do a little, check, repeat. It took me about 5 minutes or so to time.

Were you within a quarter rev from the get-go?

Yeah, give or take, I can't remember for sure but it wasn't too far off.

How did you know it was out of time?

When you screw it on tight, you want the round holes on the top of the barrel, and the oblong holes on either side of the barrel.
