Looking into a new tripod and wanted to hear some first hand experiences on both. Other than the obvious height and about 8-12oz difference in weight does anything really set them apart for any owners? Thanks

I have the 624. I haven’t found myself ever wishing for additional height. I’m always glassing seated and even when sitting in chairs in blinds, it’s plenty tall. After cataloging all my gear on lighterpack and seeing what everything weighs, 8-12oz is huge for what I feel is no benefit, for me. If you find that you will glass enough standing up, it could very well be worth the weight penalty. Also I didn’t know the weight difference was that much. I thought it was just a 1/4 lb. Also the extra 4” of length fully compacted would drive me nuts too.

I have a 634 and have wondered if the 624 wouldn't have been better for me. I do all my glassing with it sitting down and in 2 years with it have never glassed with it while standing.

Where are you guys seeing the 8-12oz weight difference? I am only seeing a 4oz difference...

I went 634 because of the minimal weight penalty for the standing height. I find myself standing from time to time and am glad I went with the taller one.

I have the 624 and it has not left me wanting, I don’t glass while standing. I think the big diff is do you like to stand while glassing.

i also have the shortie.

i really thought about what i was gonna do with it. sit on a pad, glassing for a long time. yup..that is about my routine. i cant picture a time i would need it at standing height.

i see guys in AZ set up tall tripods and look real quick..they are not standing for hours. i'm okay taking a knee for a quick look.

i dont know much about the 634, but the little one fits so easily in my smallest daypack. my DragonSlayer has these small sleeves on the sides, inside the main compartment. i just drop it in there. no fuss in or out. the fuss is on the other side, with the spotting scope.

The weight difference is 4oz (actually 3.6oz) NOT “8-12.” Just FYI in the difference. You’d have to be a serious ounce counter to worry much about that difference; and the extra height COULD come in handy. I use the ProMaster but would have gone with the 634 otherwise. Rarely I might use the height but I like knowing I can if conditions need it.

Yeah I mentioned that it was 1/4 lb weight difference. But to each their own. I don’t put much value in knowing I could if I wanted, so there’s no benefit to carrying the extra weight, even if it’s 1 oz. I’ll either use the feature or I won’t. And I don’t use the extra height. If I had bought the 634 I would have quickly realized I should sell it for the 624. Glad I made the right choice initially.
