Sleeping bags best and weight and price.

buy the best down bag you can afford and rock it. Maybe try geartrade.com too for deals on some used ones that maybe out of your price range otherwise.

Taiga works has good reviews, and reasonably priced down bags. I currently use WM for my late season, but will be going Taiga for my next bag.

I didn’t see any comments regarding fill weight. That honestly is a huge part to staying warm given a temp rating versus a certain brand. When comparing brands at the same temp rating always look at the size and fill weight. Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends are known to be true to their temp rating D they use premium 850 - 900 down with conservative amounts of down.

also the REI marmot helium is listed at $430 right now and you can get a brand new Western Mountaineering Alpinlite 20 for $544. So for $114 more you ensure that you are sleeping the best you can in the backcountry.
Fill weight is incredibly important as is your sleeping pad and the ability to move the down within the baffles. WM or FF all day long.

Valandre is on sale on Moosejaw at least once a year. Snagged the Bloody Mary and the shocking blue over the past few years and they’re shoulder to shoulder with WM and FF

300-400 dollar marmot helium 15 vs western mountaineering Alpenlite 20. This is coming from a person who has a custom bag designed by someone who designed and managed the manufacturing of many marmot bags

The WM zipper rarely snags . The marmot several times each time you get in and out . The WM you can relieve yourself and be back in your bag before you are awake . For me , the marmot I was awake by the time I got the zipper zipped

The WM draft collar works ... it means your feet and chest are similar warmth . The helium does not have a real one . Your feet may sweat and chest might be cold

The marmot I would feel chilled at 25 the WM really is a 20 degree .

The helium 2 lb 8 ounces .. the WM 2 lbs 1 .

Sure , the marmot is a good bag , it will last ( though my son needs his zipper replaced in his and it’s probably 7 years old ) but the WM is a great bag . If you use it say 200 nights over 10 years and then sell it on eBay it’s likely the cost is less than a dollar a night for the convenience . To me , for a dollar I’ll take the WM .

I’m upgrading sleeping bag and have a EE 20 quilt that’s too cold and an old down sleeping bag that’s the right (unknown) warmth but it’s heavy. What would be the best sleeping bag degree rating for a late September CO elk hunt at 9,000-10,000 ft?
