Maybe have him try a quilt. One thing with large roomy bags is they are harder to stay warm in.

I just lay straight on my Neoair Xlite or XTherm sleeping pad. At first I thought it might be odd sleeping on a plastic like pad but it hasn't bothered me a bit. If he needed, you can get covers for the pads.

Good advice to look at EE quilts. I'm thinking hard about getting the Convert myself as it should cover a wide array of temps and be able to be opened up a bit if your feeling a lil mummy anxiety.

I would get a quilt but if he doesn't like that idea then look into the montbell sleeping bags. I believe they are stretchy so maybe not so restricting.

My long/wide EE quilts are wonderful! I wanna be able to jump up and move if a Grizz is pawing my tent.

EE Revelation quilt in long/ wide should do it. I get all twisted up in a mummy but don't have that problem with the quilt.
