HA - you need to cut the tags off all that stuff or something just so you can say your under 5lbs.

I'm at 4.25 lbs. Had this combo down to 21.8* and slept in comfort. That includes kifaru 5 string med stuff sack, Seek Outside LBO, BA Q-core SL, borah bivy, and draft dodger quilt.

How do you like the center zip?

I like it quite a bit. I tend to get kind of twisted up because I toss and turn all the time. The center zip keeps it close to my hands. Sometimes with the side zip I can get it twisted slightly behind my shoulder and then I'm trying to slide my opposite hand across to reach it.

I have a question for you tent and bivy guys. Why are you using a full tent like the Mountain Shelter and a bivy, too?

for me i started using one to A. help keep spensive down bag clean B. keep dog off said bag.
i used just tyvek last year and it was fine but some other benefits of the bivy is it keeps me on my pad(first time ever), extra warmth if needed or in the warm season my bag is just in there with me like a blanket but not falling in the dirt

Actually, I'm asking about bivies in floorless tents like the Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter that's fully enclosed compared to a tarp with a open end. Poor wording on my part, I suppose.

I do but I am using a TiGoat Ptarmigan bivy that is not really a stand alone bivy. The bottom is water proof but the top is only water resistant. I like it because it keeps my bag clean, zip it up when I leave and I do not have any uninvited guests when its time for bed, a bit of barrier from any condensation that may drip on the bag and the biggest reason is to keep me on my pad at night.

GoLite Hut 1. 16 oz
Jacks R Better 15° quilt. 25 oz
Pacific outdoor equipment air pad 14 oz

3 lb 7 oz total

Can't remember the prices for certain but I think I'm under 500 bones

This is my warm weather set up.

I use a chep bivy I got off ebay with my paratipi for condensation when I rub the side of the tent and to help keep my sleeping pad in place

I use a bivy inside a floored tent because it's alaska and it can get ugly. A friend was on a sheep hunt 2 years ago and the drainage they hunted flooded out, well his BA Zirkel and pad were inside a TiGoat bivy....floating inside the tent, dry.

His partner, however, had a wet bag.

My bad. I misunderstood I guess.

I use my bivy inside my SL5 if I don't take the floor to keep my bag and pad clean and dry.

I see a lot of wet climate folks doubling up with the bivy. How about folks in drier climates like the Rockies? All you guys just want me to spend more money.

Local to you Rucker and I have used mine from Wyoming to S CO. Could prolly get away without it but for the 6ozs it's worth the extra protection and comfort. Not to mention the extra warmth and lighter bag I can get away with.
