Skunk in a dog proof trap

I’ve head shot them with luck on them not spraying, just stay upwind for removal.

If he does spray, stay away, the crows will eventually find it and it will be gone in a day.

Shoot it. Approach it with a leaf blower blowing it down wind, set the leaf blower down on wide open. Put the skunk in a garbage bag and get rid of it.

When i was in high school running bobcat traps I would catch a few from time to time. A large white sheet worked each time.

Guessing the pressure of the DP trap broke the paw when it snapped shut and all the jumping and twisting around ....just tore it off. I've found a raccoon paw from overnight as well once or twice.

No matter where you shoot a skunk it can spray. I have shot them about everywhere and they pretty much always spray a little. Just embrace the stank, or shoot them and retrieve after a few days. My uncle swears a red solo cup over a dog proof will keep pack rats and skunks out and makes coons more curious, but I've never tried it.

I know it's late but every skunk 5 now I have caught in a live trap cage or dog proof has all sprayed when shot head or lungs. Am I just unlucky? Also caught my mouse killer of an outside cat in my dog proof ended up with a 3 legged cat now. Anyone have any tips on bait for the coon to reduce bycatch does the gilf ball on top or cup thing really help that much?

I saw something about using a dixie cup - keeps rain/dew off baits too.

After you shoot it with a .22 it will release, maybe not spray, but release.

in the futre, carboard your trap so the skunk can't see you, put a 20 foot piece of rope on it, then you can pull the trap away from the house, ect and dispatch it.
