Skip the base layer for late season hunts?

I’m thinking of leaving my base layer top at home for late season hunts and just using my grid fleece as next to skin. The base layer gets so bunched up and it drives me crazy and I don’t think it is providing much value to me.

Thoughts?

I also have the GoHunt atmosphere and had less of a problem with the bunching wearing that, but it still happened. It’s like the base layer twists clockwise on my arms. Can’t stand to wear the grid fleece with the base layer but without the base layer I am extremely comfortable.

Any difference with a different base layer? I’ve had some that twisted and rode up. Too much friction between the layers because of material types or the mid layer was too small allowing it to grab the base.

Maybe try wearing something over your base layer that doesn't stick to it.

I have the kings xkg base layer and had a similar issue but I need to size down in the kings. Maybe there is too much friction between wool and polyester?

Could be. Use a process of elimination. Try your base with different mids and try your mid with different base. Doesn’t have to be during a hunting season just put them on and go do something that involves a lot of movement.

I ditched the klamath...wasn't happy with the warmth to weight ratio and wind performance. In doing so I also switched to "non-sticky" active midlayers.

For me, base layer is crucial. 99.9% of the time it's a fl wick hoody for me.

I moved to the ov ventus active hoody which carries me from archery through rifle. If it's really cold (highs in teens or less) I use the the vario jacket as my midlayer.

Throw an oversized down parka on when I'm glassing and I'm more than toasty.

I've been incredibly happy and impressed with those two pieces.
