Because of my employment I am able to buy direct from a lot of different outdoor industry companies through a promotional form. I just went on to purchase some SITKA gear and easily half of their Items now say they cannot ship to CA or NY. I went on a few of the other gear makers websites, First Light, Banded, Kryptek, Badlands etc and they have no such restrictions. Anyone know what is going on there? Sitka seems rather hush about it.

And that's why we Love living here in Cali. People are nuts for sure.

the crazy thing is that it just appears to be a Sitka thing. No one else seems to have issue, there is no new regulation that should impact clothing shipped into ca that I can find or anything. And why are the other outdoor gear dealers not impacted? something is weird.

Pretty sure it's due to local regulation. Regarding chemicals used in production I would assume.

found it... California. California's Assembly Bill (AB) No. 1817[1] prohibits the manufacture, distribution, sale, or offer for sale of any new textile articles containing regulated PFAS within the state beginning January 1, 2025
Simms has the same disclaimer now and it all appears to be on Gore Tex items.

Gore has discontinued all pfas (fluorinated) products so everyone is in transition until the new products are incorporated into their clothing lines. Eliminating fluorocarbons in lots of industries has been going on for awhile now. The first that hit me that I saw was ski waxes a number of years ago. It’s not just California, it’s everywhere all over the globe. California may have specifically targeted it but it’s going on elsewhere. BTW I still hate CA and their ridiculousness 🤣

I wonder if Kuiu will be closing their Dixon store and making Dallas the HQ.
I have a friend who is in the finance industry and he handles some huge money clients...including people associated with KUIU, based on what he tells me KUIU is in the process of being sold to a much larger group. But it looks like they have already phased out or never used the PFA's that are regulated in this regulation, From looking into it this regulation was passed three years ago and most companies have already adapted to it including Gore tex. so not quite sure what is going on here.

Yep. Already made in China. Might as well be owned by a Chinese conglomerate as well.

looks like it is about to hit everything with a waterproof coating on it. It is not only gore tex. Apparently this has been coming for several years and the industry has known about it for awhile and it will effect far more than CA and NY. will be interesting to see how the industry responds.

.... because PFAS products/chemicals are dangerous... Period. If people actually paid attention to what they are eating and wearing, there would be a revolution against big corps and what they are continually pushing onto the public.

California has some insane laws. They prohibit certain types of metals also. In my industry, there was a push to have only lead free brass a few years ago. California banned brass that was not lead free from being shipped into the state along with other certain metals. There have been documented cases of individuals in California ordering these banned metals from companies outside of CA and then filing lawsuits against the companies who shipped the product into California. Some of these individuals are said to have been law firms looking for a quick and easy pay day. It is no wonder that so many companies are gun shy about shipping anything to California.

Well, mixed feelings on this one. I work for an environmental remediation company.. PFAS contamination is a huge freakin deal. I'd have to look into this but there are many PFAS free options coming to market. Goretex doesn't come at zero cost to the environment. Now, I'd like to think that we've improved on this but I doubt any of us are experts.

That’s interesting about KUIU potentially being bought out.
