If you were to characterize how the Sitka heavyweight hoody should fit in a layering system, would you characterize it as:

Tight Muscle Shirt (My 9 year old is asking for it back)

Form fitting, but not super tight

Loose (Like an oversized sweatshirt)

Baggy (90s gangsta’s ain’t got nothin on me)

I’m stuck in between a M and a L right now and I’m trying to decide which size I should keep. I normally wear it over a base layer of some sort (mid layer).

Thanks for the insight in helping how to properly utilize this piece of clothing.

Form fitting not super tight, one of my favorite pieces of clothing. I wear it all the time and typically sleep in it when camping!

I wear a medium, 5'10 155lbs.

I can wear it over a thin base layer easily but wear it as my first layer often.

It's about the only Sitka piece that fits me. I'm between a M and L also. The Medium Heavyweight Hoodie fits great. Most other Sitka Mediums are too small and Large is too loose / baggy.

I’ve moved my mediums forever. But I’m gained some weight (on purpose), and now it fits me pretty tight. So I bought some large ones, and they seem pretty baggy on me. So I’m just trying to decide if I should wash everything on hot and then dry it and see if I can get them to shrink just a bit to make a better fit.

true to size, the heavy weight hoody is form fitting but not crazy tight.
The Fanatic hoody is looser

Am in between sizes on Sitka. L or XL. Bought a L in the heavyweight hoody to layer over, but ended up selling and going with XL. Am old school, don’t like tight fitting stuff unless next to skin. Don’t usually wear my HW hoody next to skin, generally over a tee. Love my HW hoody.

Here are some comparisons. And yes, my wife accused me of being gay because I’m asking other men for fashion advice 😂

Large

And do you think this large will shrink, even a little bit?

I’m not worried about the fit as much as I am the performance. Does the tighter fit help or hinder the performance of this particular piece? Any help on appropriate fit would be appreciated.

Looks like you can go with either size, gay boy. 😂

I generally wear mine in colder weather and prefer the slightly snug but not tight fit. I was between sizes in L and XL, went with XL. Fits well under jackets without binding in the sleeves. Works great with a Sitka lightweight long sleeve crew or merino tshirt underneath.

That hoody does have a fairly long cut to it, so when it gets real cold I will tuck it into my pants and that can add a lot of warmth.

I prefer the Apex merino hoody for September and early October. The heavyweight hoody is more of a late season piece for me.
