Thinking about upgrading my travel bag. How water resistant are the Drifter or STOL? Can’t really see myself dropping a fortune on a yeti, but open to anything under $200.

I've used the old Drifters, the STOL and the KUIU bags quite a bit. The new Drifter type Sitka bags appear to be a big improvement. The old ones had crappy zippers and the bags weren't deep enough. The new bags address both. I wish both the Drifter and STOL came in a larger size, but smaller than the largest KUIU Bag which is TOO large. For some hunts I cannot get all of my stuff in the largest STOL and the large STOL is larger than any of the new Drifter bags. Of these three, none are perfect for me, but the STOL is close. All of them are pretty "water resistant".

I have a camper shell that I use to put gear in but when you say water resistant, do you think you could throw the STOL bag in the back of a truck and drive several hours in the rain without the inside contents getting wet? Just as long as the bag is not submerged in water it’ll be fine? Thanks for the response.

By looking at the bags, I would guess the STOL to be the least water resistant of the three as the exterior is cordura with a water resistant lining. Can't say for sure, but I'm sure your stuff would stay dry with anything short of driving in a down pour.

It's hard to beat the tried and true North Face Base Camp duffel. Been around for years and a staple on expeditions of any sort. I think the biggest (150 Liters) is still less than $200. They will last forever.
