Here is my comparison of the two top fleece layers in hunting right now. Both solid options, the hood gives the Sitka version the edge for me but I like the feel of the First Lite version better.

Also, a less expensive alternative for us Camofire types. Which of these fleeces do you guys prefer and why?

How would you compare the Traverse top? Would it be more in line with the Halstead Fleece?

I can’t speak to that, I have no experience with that piece. But as far as the build it appears to be similar to the Halstead just from the pictures I’ve seen.

the travese is a total differnt matteral then these two peices. It brushed on the inside and has a smooth shell like on the outside. it doenst breath as well as either the halsted or the core heavy weight. Its a great mid layer for low Exertion activities.

I had two halsteads and the fit on both were funny, long in the arms and tight in the shoulders while the lower part was loose. The solid halsted i had split at the shoulder seems. I returned it and sold the asat one i had.
The core heavy weight hoody from sitka is my favoite sitka peice of all time. I have it and the fanatic hoddy in every camo and soild color they make. Its more fitted then the halsted with better proportions. I find it true to size and i can wear it as a first layer or over a light weight base. They have all held up very well so far. My tan CHH and the fanatic hoody in EVII i probably have 100 days wearing each of them. on the fanatic hoody i like the face mask but dont care for the mitts, howver they are unintrusive pushed up.
Of the two peices i would recommend the core heavy over the halstead.

A great american made alternative is TAD gear vortex hoody, i bought a pair of them and they are excellent. slightly fitted like the core heavy weight hoody, the matteral is slight lighter. The hood a little bigger and the neck doenst come up as high when zippered. it has a nylon type matteral over the shoulder that holds uo well to pack straps. Its about 10oz in XL vs 14oz in the sitka core heavy weight hoody.
for a 125 its a nice peice.

That’s interesting. I think First Lite has definitely improved the fit of their garments lately because I haven’t experienced any of those proportion or durability issues, but the Sitka is also a great piece for sure.

Honestly a better comparison would have been the Sitka core heavy weight zip tee vs the Halstead. They are both the same weight, hoodless. Honestly except for fit and Looks they are pretty close to the same. They are also the same price.

You’re right, if I owned the zip-t I would’ve included it.

How does the KUIU Peloton 240 compare to the Halstead and core heavyweight hoody?

I personally don’t have any experience with KUIU. I will say that I’ve heard mostly good things about the Peloton line but mostly bad things about KUIU as a company. I can’t speak to that from experience though.

I could speak for the Peloton 240 as it is one of my favorite pieces of clothing. Its listed at 15oz and is extremely warm. I also think that the wind resistant claim is a little conservative. Thats where it shines for me. I never had a Halsted but still have a chama which never sees the field anymore. It also makes me look buff  so i give it a 10 for fit
