I'd hazard a guess that he didn't didn't impale himself, most likely a Shrike.Forgive me for being a terrible photographer. Thought I was having a bad day hunting until I came across this guy. Somehow in the wide open spaces, he managed to impale himself on the barb wire fence. Walking along the fence with bow in hand, thought at first it was a fuzz ball or something. Stopped to take a look and couldn't believe his luck....
Back in the early 80's I started noticing bugs, small snakes and lizards being impaled on one of our barbed wire fences. After some discussion with a friend, I discovered it was a shrike.Great info 1badDart! I have never heard of that feeding behavior. You always learn something new from RS members.
