Simple Bivy just to keep pad and quilt together and add some warmth/draft protection.

Hello,

I'm just wondering if someone knows of an ultralight bivy or something designed just to keep your pad and quilt together. I would like something breathable with a zipper, but doesn't need to be super water proof.

I would even use this inside a regular tent just to keep everything together and add a little warmth. I have tried a liner inside my bag but I always get twisted up in them. And also I move a ton so find myself slipping off my pad regularly.

I've seen the MLD super light solo bivy, katabatic bivys, Borah Bivys, and even the 3FUL tyvek bivy, but wondering if there is something basic/cheaper that I am missing. Almost like a sleeping bag liner but designed to go outside the bag and won't compress the loft and has a minimal weight penalty. It does't even need a face covering.

Sort of a random question/request but I appreciate any help.

This is exactly where the Zen Bivy sheet shines. It keeps the pad, quilt, and pillow all where you want them. I have also looked at a similar bivy to what you are looking for, and the closest I have found is the katabatic pinon bivy. IMO it could shave a lot of material by not aiming to have enough to suspend above you, but for breathability and not compressing your insulation it does well.

I went and bought a “cocoon” brand sleeping bag liner. It weighs 3-4 oz and does what you say. Only drawback is that you have to climb in from the top. I’ve debated on adding a super lightweight zipper down the side which would fix my issue with the system.

Ok cool. Are you saying you use this on the outside of the system? Which model did you purchase?

I have tried liners before that go inside the bag but I always end up twisted around in them so thought something outside might be better.

The idea spawned from using my OR Ascentshell bivy. I noticed I sleep a lot warmer when using it but when in a regular tent I always have drafts and my bag slips off my pad. I think I just move around too much at night.

Thanks for the reply.

I use it on the outside of my system like a Bivy sack. Everything goes inside it. And I don’t remember the exact model. Just the white silk(?) one that is as light as possible.
