Silencerco Scythe TI review

As a potential new can owner that was really interested in the Scythe Ti upon release, I've done my best to keep up with the failure reports and other info as it comes out. I want a can on my rifle before I head out for my 2025 hunts.

That said, to the Scythe owners, would you have any reservations about buying a Scythe Ti today for hunting and range use on a 16" .308? Is there anything else you'd be looking at or considering as an alternative? I was looking hard at a Dead Air Nomad Ti before their big customer service debacle and the release of the Scythe. I know SHOT is happening as I type this so maybe something new will show up over the next few days too.

Without knowing how many they have sold, it’s hard to assess the risk of using the Scythe Ti. But I am using mine without hesitation on an 18” 6.5 Grendel and 20” 6.5 Creedmore.

Have a Scythe, generally happy, not concerned with it blowing up with what i'm shooting. But i might lean towards trying a nomad ti XC on the next go round.

Not that I want to buy my first suppressor only to have issues with it, but the fact that the fixes are being handled so quickly and painlessly does give some peace of mind.

The Nomad Ti XC is also very compelling. Is the general consensus that a printed can would be more durable than one with welded construction?

I would not have any hesitation. Silencerco CS is reportedly fantastic and the scythe really is the best option for a lightweight hunting can that I'm aware of, if you're prioritizing length, weight, and suppression.

For my next can, I was thinking either scythe, or the nomad xc ti, or the DD wolf hunter. Both reportedly are slightly quieter than the scythe to those who I've seen report on it. Between the two, I may go DD since Nomad's CS is supposedly garbage.

I fully planned on buying the Scythe, but LGS had both in stock and after getting to fondle both I went with the Nomad XC. Just feels like a better product in-hand.

The Nomads are nice. I have the LTi (non xc) and it’s super quiet. Tames the 300 PRC nicely. The regular length XC was on my list as well. But I wanted as short as I could but still have good sound reduction. The Scythe checked the boxes for me. And it’ll probably never see a barrel under 16” anyway so I’m not concerned about the “issues” some have had. But you can’t go wrong with the nomad at all.

No hesitation from me. I had to deal with their customer service a few years back and it was excellent and I think actual failure rates are pretty low with the number of suppressors they have sold. I try to keep the firing rate on it slow since it’s titanium. If it blows up I’ll be frustrated but in the end it’s still a great suppressor.

I really like the titanium nomads but dislike dead air for the way they handled the Sierra debacle. I have a dead air suppressor and have loved it, but no current plans to buy any in the future.

My Scythe just arrived, excited to put it to use soon! It will live on an 18” 6.5CM for now, so hopefully low risk of failure. The welds look perfect on mine at face value for whatever that’s worth. Still hesitant to try the SiCo 223 end cap with the 6.5 even though the numbers all work out but hopefully I’ll work up the courage in time so I can report back.

Okay for all those wondering, I tried to get some photos that may help regarding end caps.

The standard 30-cal anchor brake opening measures 0.360 inches. So a buffer of 0.030 for a 30-caliber bullet.

The titanium 223 end cap by silencerco measures 0.320. For a 6.5mm bullet (0.264) that means nearly the same amount of buffer at 0.027. I’ve added a few photos of a 6.5mm, 143 ELDX inside the 223 endcap to show how much extra space there is.

Last, I took a photo of the anchor brake vs the titanium 223 endcap and you can see the thread depth is early identical. I also added a photo to show that it is nearly flush when installed in case anyone was unsure.

Mine is used similarly, no hard use, all bolt actions at the range and for hunting. All moderate intensity cartridges, so no worries from me about getting one. So far, 5.56, 6mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel. Soon will see use on a 18” 243 Win and on a 18” 7mm-08.
