Somewhere out there a tort lawyer and an anti-gun judge are salivating over this…

I actually started studying for the Bar yesterday. Got it scheduled next week. Wish me luck! Sounds like lots of clients here. ;)

Personally, if I didn’t have a scythe already, I’d be avoiding them at this point. I have a TBAC ultra 7 which I like better anyways. I’ve always thought silencer co silencers were sort of cheap but the scythe was supposed to be the newest hottest shit, now they are blowing up. For me it would be a hard pass but I already have one so it is what it is.
I 100% agree. Mine blew up. Was def not mid used and I’d wager to say it was pretty babied. I wish I could just get my money back but I don’t think that’s an option. I really like the can but def not if it blows under the conditions mine did. My kids shoot a lot and I have a hard time trusting it now.

For sure. It's a bit frusterating because I'd like to use the scythe on some other rifles I have but I just don't trust it. I think it will likely be fine on my 18" 6.5 creed moor but I won't put it on anything else. I honestly wish I'd just bought another TBAC. I guess to me, the frustrating part is how SiCo is just denying any issue when they are clearly not a 1 off. If they would just admit that maybe there are cartridge or barrel length restrictions and say hat they are it might be different.

If no one is getting hurt, I would put it right back on the gun that it blew in half on. I would want to test it out to ensure that the problem is fixed. I am guessing that Sico knows the issue and hopefully it is rectified on the newer Scythes.

I called silencerco and reported what we're seeing here. ~120 reports, ~8.5% failure rate, all bolt actions, people seem to keep them cool/no rapid fire, common failure theme is 20-22" of a magnum, typically somewhat low round counts.

He said misuse they refer to (and maybe see in warranty returns but he didn't explicitly state they see it) is typically using them on semi autos, rapid fire, and getting too hot. He said their failure rate they see is less than 1% and they're not concerned about it. He said they're selling more than 1000 of these per month, so their sample size is large.

I also commented on round count/"shelf life" of the suppressor concerned about using it for all my shooting at 1000-1500 rounds a year and said that wasn't a concern. I said I use it on a 16" 223 and 22" 243 and didn't want to blow mine up so what recommendations can he provide for preventing that. He said they recommend no more than 10rds/min to keep it cool and that's pretty much it.

So.... That's incredibly unsatisfying. 10rds/min from my 16" 223 would get that thing super hot in a hurry.

Who wants to test 10rds/min with their 20" 300 prc? 😂😂

I definitely shot 10 rounds/minute with mine on an 18” 6.5CM without much issue. I don’t know the temp but saw a small amount of smoke coming off the can, which I assume was the oil coating smoking off from heat.

At this point I decided I don't want to risk it with the intention of putting it on PRC's. I've found RS to be substantially more credible than any industry CS rep, and even if 100 people came in to cast their vote of a perfectly functioning can the stats still look like shit. Thanks for the feedback!

In my uneducated opinion, a 8 oz can will not hold up to short barrel rum pressures.

Seems like a reasonable take in my (also uneducated) opinion. At least not currently with cans that are made to maximize suppression at the low weight. Maybe one could be built beefy with fewer baffles, lower volume, and handle it but its probably not going to suppress 90 grains of powder worth a crap.

I have one on order. I think I'm going to roll the dice anyway...for science. But if it blows apart on me, at least I won't be surprised.

Especially if the added recoil of flinging several ounces of suppressor downrange causes you to be scoped.

Yes. A 16oz can launched from a 5.56mm AR recoils about like a 12ga. While these cans are light, from large cartridges- you are getting into injury territory. I know of two people that have broke clavicles from large cartridges and cans coming apart and launching, and multiple others with soft tissue damage. Ironically… All from the same manufacturer.

This is something I hadn’t considered, although it seems obvious now that I think about it.

You mean from Silencer Company?
