what'd I miss?

Just watching for the know-it-all-close-minded-all-conspiracies-are-true-my-uncle-used-to-deliver-mail-to-a-doctor-name caller to post but haven't seen him?

I thought so far so good.

But do miss posts on occasion

It's flirting but I think we are safe.

This vaccine is a reality and this thread is an opportunity to share experiences. I politely ask that all do their part to help the thread stay active. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that should be respected.

I am personally very fearful of this vaccine. To develop confidence in this vaccine before my family lines up I would like to see the leaders of this country in medicine, politics, entertainment, sports and social media, etc.,etc., post up on their accounts and give some feedback on how things are going for them after receiving both rounds of shots. If Pence, Pelosi, Biden, Harris, Gates,Hillary,Fauci, etc,etc are really wanting to get the country all aboard it’s time to lead by example, bipartisanship and unity, ya know!

Sounds like at least Biden and Pence are getting it. I agree it would help a lot of people have their mind at least seeing world leaders, actors, athletes, pharma execs getting it etc.

But let's be honest few will show any of that leadership.

Not directly related to you post, but I think it is interesting that many in the medical field are on board to take the vaccine in terms of safety and efficacy and there were ~75K volunteers in the clinical trials who have taken it and whose experiences we could draw from.

And yet many are looking to politicians, actors, and professional athletes as our barometer. Frankly, they are the LAST people in our society that I would look to for direction on this sort if thing, or anything in general.

I agree with you. But those people that are high profile (especially people like Trump, Pence, Biden, Harris etc) would be able to hit a lot of exposure to people that don't know or care about a MD that they don't know on TV getting the vaccination.

It could mean 10s of thousands or more people getting it that may not have otherwise.

i hope someone in the med field will chime in and correct me if im wrong but i though most diseases that vaccines are very successful against tend to have very low mutation rates. this in comparison to say the flu vaccine, which is literally an educated guess of what the strain will be by the time it gets here.

is there any data on how the covid vaccine will handle slight mutations, or is this going to be another flu vaccine that has to be taken every year?

Moderna’s data is pretty good, but Pfizer’s is definitely better.

And then the background which you addressed makes me a lot happier to be getting the Pfizer variety. I’m curious how much disclosure there will be when vaccines become available to the general public. Certainly to people who ask, but how many will?
I don't think the data on efficacy is any good for either one of them. They both just vaccinated a bunch of people and gave placebo to others. Kept track of Covid infections in both groups. That isn't a strong data set by a long ways. When they "rush" these products to market they are far more concerned with safety than they are with efficacy. So far, both have proven to be very safe in the short term. Long term, as well as real efficacy remains to be seen with both. Pfizer doesn't exactly have the best record with safety.

My main concern with the Pfizer product is the handling of the vaccine. It is a very fragile product with stringent handling requirements. Those requirements are going to get broken at steps along the way. How many doses of the Pfizer vaccine are going to be rendered inactive because of the handling. This is one of the things that would make regular approval of this product difficult in a normal environment.

Pence and Biden and Harris have all committed to getting it publicly.

Obama, Clinton, and Bush are all going to televise themselves getting it.

You haven't missed anything - I'm just forecasting (I know - danger). When I caught myself wanting to repeat several of my posts from the prior thread, it caught my attention. Sharing the experiences is very valuable, but the "I'm going to/not going to" followed by "and your analysis is [insert less than deferential way of disagreeing]" is heating up. Hopefully since we've been asked and see that you are watching intently, it will stay cool. 🤞

That's the biggest question. What will end up being worse, risks of longterm vaccine issues? Or the longterm issues from contracting COVID? So far I am thinking I will take the vaccine. Enough has been documented now of people with heart, lung, and neurologic issues from COVID that I will risk the vaccine instead. Especially by the time it gets to be my turn millions of people will have taken the vaccine and the initial group will be nearing the 1 year mark.

If people "need" to see some celebrity or government figure getting the vaccine in order to decide whether to get it, then they are pretty useless in thinking and functioning for themselves, and that's a pretty sad state of affairs in America.

I'll get the vaccine when it's available to regular folks. I had the virus in early March, it was fairly easy to get over, and I don't have any lasting effects that I'm aware of yet. It wouldn't be worst thing for me personally just to get a little sick once a year and not have to worry about it any more. BUT, I don't want to be the guy spreading it to others who may not get through it so smoothly. So I'll take the shot. With all the stuff I had injected in me in the military, it just seems unlikely this will be the shot that gets me.

On that subject, someone mentioned Anthrax vaccines were dangerous? I had a handful of rounds of that stuff, what's the story?
Got a bunch of knots all over. They would only cut out one at a time. After 30 plus visits and some gut issues I got out just as quick as I could.

Now every year at physical time the va does some testing on me. Above and beyond normal blood work. Not sure what they are looking at or for.. get generic answers when I ask. I keep exact records on even the mundane correspondence.

Originally I was told they are fairly normal and not to worry. Then had some gut issues and they went to hacking away. When it quit being an option to get them cut or not, that was final straw with the government and me.

From what I can gather itll be another agent orange deal. At some point in the future things will happen that get linked back to vaccine. Anyway thats most of story.
