Looking for a new rangefinder for archery hunting and maybe an occasional rifle hunt. Looking for very accurate and fast readings at close ranges and one that does angle compensation for steep archery shots. Also, how does the Sig compare to the Vortex, Leopold, and Leica? I have read a little bit about the Sig but it seemed like most of the review was aimed towards rifle hunting. Thanks!

I have one and a leupold tbr 1000. Both have been great for archery. The kilo much better with my rifle and kestrel.

My partner has one and loves it. Compares in speed with my leica but not in glass clarity. It's double what my vortex ranger ever dreamed of being. For the value I think it's the best thing going if durability holds up

Auto brightness makes it a no brainer. Loved my vortex but forgetting to turn down or up brightness cost me a shot or two

I've had a Leica CRF 900 for about 10 years now and I love it, but it doesn't do angle comp. I picked up the Kilo 2000 this year mostly for long range shooting, but liked it so much I used it for archery this year. It's faster than a guy can think and in scan mode it immediately gives you the ranges. I tested the angle comp many times to the tops of trees and such and walked it off to the base and it was always spot on. Great unit. The only thing I don't like is the decimal place. I really could care less whether it is 59.3 yards or just 59 yards.

Either work fine. I couldn't decide and bought both to cut through the BS and internet mumbo jumbo. Longest read on the Sig was 1,719. Vortex was 1,040. Up to 1,000 yards both read everything. Found a couple of does at 250 and cows (as in moo) at 631. No problem. No difference in actual yardages. Raining like hell and plenty of fog.

Differences?

Ok, 6x on the Vortex, 7x on the Sig. Who cares unless you're Joe Super Long Range. You might like the 6x for bow distances and it may seem like you can hold it steadier. Sig is quicker to read and a lot quicker on scan mode. Found some school buses parked diagonally and they went in 2 yard increments around 620 to 640. Sig rattled across pretty quick, Vortex had the same read, just a little slower.

Warranty better on the Vortex and it has a stud for 1/4 x 20 tripod mount. I do like the little side clip.

I'm sure that both fans will tout that one is a POS and one isn't. I'd be happy with either. I did decide to keep the Sig, for no other reason than it reads 3 times further than I have to shoot or do shoot or have ever shot or will ever shoot.

Kinda like the old Spinal Tap movie. "this one goes to 11...."

Anyway, Vortex was $289 to my door, Sig was $362.

Vortex is in the classifieds for $270. Little loss is well worth hands on R&D. Kinda how we used to do shit before the internet.

Sig blows the Vortex away on speed, clarity and repeated accuracy. I'm so glad I sold my Vortex and went to the Sig. Yes vortex has a great warranty but a crazy product. Can't comment on the Leica and Leupold, never used either but the Sig just amazes me at its speed and consistent readout. In speed the Sig is like a Ferrari and the Vortex a Camero.

Dig will range closer then the Vortex (my comparison) and has angle comp.

Disclaimer, my Vortex was original Ranger 1000.

I'm wondering about the 7X magnification being too much for archery in the deer woods, 20-50 yards...any input?

I just picked one up and here are my thoughts. The 7X is more than you need in thick deer woods, but it is not a show stopper. The scan mode more than makes up for it. With my old rangefinder I would shoot a distance in the woods only to have it report back something I knew wasn't right. Obviously it picked up a branch or sapling in between my intended target and then I would have to try again. With the Sig you can just scan and get instant feedback. This has helped me get readings through brush I would have really struggled with before. Saves some time and frustration for sure.

They both have angle compensation. Sig shortest is 6, Vortex 11. Sig is definitely the fastest, my Leica 1200 was slower than the Vortex. Clarity wise I didn't see much difference. Sig is a little blue.

There's some "last" feature I haven't figured out on the Sig yet.

Which Leica? Mine was an old LRF1200. Slow as molasses. Definitely find that circle on the Sig beats the cross hairs on the Vortex for long stuff. What's the longest you've gotten outta your Sig? I'm thinking you'd need a pretty steady rest. 1,719 was my best hand hold, but have seen some guys posting pics over 2K.

Doesn't make much difference for my shooting, but more like a "damn, that's a long way"

I actually don't like the circle so much, ranging long range stuff........a lot fits in that circle. I haven't done a ton of testing on it but did range a building at over 2500 yards, which is pretty darn impressive for such an affordable unit. I do find for long range and the large circle, that it's difficult to keep a consistent reading on the exact object I'm ranging. But it does flash back and forth so I can at least get an idea of what the yardage is.
