Sig cross vs custom tikka build??

I started down the path of wanting a shorter 6.5 CM to run suppressed. Then I started looking at folding stock options for various rifles. Adjustable LOP is a requirement too so my kids can also shoot it.

Then I found the sig cross and I’ve been to the gun store several times looking at them and watched every video out there on them.

I cannot build a 18” threaded barrel folding stock rifle for what I can get the sig for.

Therefore I’m here to ask for confirmation on proceeding with the sig cross. I’m
99.99% convinced this is the route I want to go.

Intended use is a mountain rifle out to 500 yards and whitetail here in Oklahoma.

Maybe to expand. Is there a cost efficient route to make a tikka function like the cross? Folding stock and adjustable length of pull?

I have the cross and a tikka lite in a XLR folder,I really like the cross ,just as accurate a little lighter, the main advantage is the folder folds over the bolt handle and makes a more compact carry when folded, kelly

You can get an Ultradyne short action Tikka chassis for around $300 or so on sale ($350 regular price) and use AR-15 folding stock/grip/etc. If you already have a pile of AR-15 parts, that's pretty cheap. If you have to buy all the parts, would get up in the $500-something range for the chassis setup.

I know nothing about a Sig Cross, and I don't own a chassis rifle, but I love me some Tikka. That's how I'd roll.

I have a 6.5 creed tikka but I would buy a cross if I wanted a creed today. Im intrigued by 277 fury and if I start seeing more hunting factory ammo available I might sell the tikka and have a SA 277 cross folder to go with my 300 prc element hunter folder if it ever gets built lol. I’m weird though I just shoot the AR style grips way better and I like a compact gun. Plus trekking up the mountains I prefer easily stowed and light weapons.

A cross 6.5cm with a suppressor was one of the worst shooting experiences with a semi light rifle.

The person who bought it now has a tikka 6 creed build

I personally wouldn’t spend my money on a cross after shooting one

What was so bad about it?

I have Sig cross in 308 and developed a load for Nosler 150 ballistic tips for deer and hog. It ended up being a 3/4 minute load for me but I only tinkered with it for an afternoon. Loaded rounds at 2.800 (never chased lands) and ran a ladder test using Varget. Ended up liking 45.0 grains Varget at 2700 fps. My problem with the gun was the heavier recoil of a 308 made it tough to drive tacks. I'm sure an efficient muzzle brake or suppressor would tame it down but I did not want an aggressive brake on this short rifle. My experience with factory loads has been good, most reputable loads shot under an inch.

Felt like shooting a tuning fork and recoil felt much more harsh than any of the tikka setups Iv shot that have been similar. That’s coming from someone who prefers a chassis and shoots quite a few rounds from metal chassis yearly.

I was not impressed. I believe you do t see many using them long term for this reason.

They do have this feel, but I wasn’t bothered by it.

It does have limited appeal, but I think it’s a solid choice if you want the features.

I would run my suppressed for sure. Good info man

That’s good insight. I really am set on having a folding stock and cheek riser. I have never owned a tikka but held the new ones at scheels last weekend. If tikka had a 18” threaded lightweight option I would highly consider it. Just hate to buy a new gun and have to cut the barrel down. I’m
Probably overthinking that part

I hear what you’re saying and I wish I could say I would even consider the cross, because on paper it looks awesome. It was just a terrible gun to shoot.

I’d get a tikka with a hnt 26 have it threaded and maybe coated and call it a day. You could probably call UM and buy a tikka and have it threaded before it even ships.

Even better yet, with tikka you do have a chance at an exceptional barrel with 6.5cm ime.

I actually called UM and had a good chat. A T3x lite blue was going to run me $1050 threaded to my door. The hunt 26 would definitely be the route to go if going custom chassis. That’s what the exo guys run on their 6 creed build. I’m so use to shooting cheek risers it would be hard for me to get away from that.

I picked up my old 7 mag the other day and I was like “man that stock seems so low” haha

What’s 6.5cm ime?

In my experience. The 6.5 creed tikka barrels seem to be hammers compared to the other chamberings.

While saving for a hnt 26 or XLR you could always throw a kydex cheek piece of the factory tikka stock, they are 30 bucks or so and drilling holes in the Tupperware stock is easy as can be.

If you just want a Lite, blued, then buy this one: https://www.eurooptic.com/tikka-t3x-lite-65-creedmoor-synthetic-jrtxe382 (around $725 with shipping, tax, and FFL fee).

Send it to Kampfeld to have it chopped and threaded with a collar (around $200 with shipping both ways, he charges $145 for the service)

It would end up being a bit cheaper than getting it from UM.

Then get the HNT26 chassis as it is probably the best lightweight folder on the market. If you watch the various classifieds, you should be able to find one for around $1100-1200.

That would put you into the setup about $2100-2200, so about $500 more than the Cross, but you would get a much better action, trigger, stock, and most likely barrel.
