Sierra 116 TMK Load Data

Anyone else shooting the 116 from a factory Tikka 243? The only post I see is 20" barrel at around 2760.

Good day on the range today in Livingston, MT. Approximately 55 F at 4600’ elevation.

Tikka T3x 6XC with 20” Bartlein 3B Barrel in 1:7.5” twist, Stocky Stocks VG Stock, Thunderbeast Ultra 7, Mountain Tactical bottom metal and magazine. Garmin chronograph.

Loaded up 3 rounds each of 116 TMK @ 2.825” COAL with H4350 @ 36g, 37g, 38g and 39 g. Saw head stamp swipes at 38g and 39g. Will load up 10 each of 36, 36.5 and 37 for groupings.

@Formidilosus - any other load combos you would reco for 116 TMK and 6XC?

6 arc data, 20” T/C encore, 28.5g cfe 223, oal 2.300, 2555 std dev 15.7. Within 20 fps of QL predicted. A little hot as the ejection is a little tight. Will probably back it down .5 to 1g.

The 107’s are about 200 fps faster, so I will probably go with those.

16.5 inch PVA Osprey barrel, OG65 muffler, 116 TMKs in starline brass, CCI BR2, 43.5 gr N165. 2650 fps for 30 shots.

As stated earlier, the barrel shows pressure really early and has been slower than I expected with every bullet and powder combination I have tried.

It looks like you are referring to my rifle. Bear in mind that I think I am pretty conservative when it comes to stepping on the velocity. If you are looking for more, it’s probably there.
I've got a Tikka 243 I've throated out an extra 0.100 (I think). Planning to cut it to 16" sometime. I may at some point this year try the 116s, so that's good to see you're getting 2760 without stepping on it.

Factory tikka 243 1-8 twist in a manners stock with rugged M+ mags. 41 gr H4350, 1x fired starline brass, fed210, coal 2.910, 2935 fps ave for 10 shots. 1.53” group. 42 gr had heavy bolt lift.

I’ve done a little load dev with the 116s out of my 22” proof tikka prefit with an OG-L suppressor and SRS brake on the end of it. I’m using virgin Peterson srp brass, Fed 210m primers, and H4350. I slapped a 116 on top of 40 gr of H4350 and loaded it to 2.250 cbto which was .030” off the lands. It shot about a 1.25” group for 5 shots at 2900ish fps.

Given that this rifle shot the Hornady 109 eld-ms into a 0.48 10 shot group, I knew I could do better with the 116s. So, back to the bench I go. I used the same load, but seated the bullets to 0.050” off the lands, 2.230 cbto. I loaded 5 and shot about a 0.7” group. That was encouraging, so I loaded up 10 more and shot the group seen below.

That day was not my best shooting day, but I was more than happy with that accuracy for a hunting load. I loaded up a bunch more and shot several to validate dope out to 715 yds. The end stats were 2902 fps avg velocity, SD of 7.2, and ES of 30.3 for 22 shots.

No more fooling around. Now it’s time to kill a spring bear with it.
