Roy68 , I do my best to get off the interstate and see America. Everywhere you can go on the interstate was serviced by a US highway and still is. Much of those highways are too congested but out west there are long stretches running through some gorgeous country filled with deplorable people like me :).

Randy , it's my 6.5 SAUM again . Last group was right at 2" @ 225 Yards off my snipepod. I won't build a new rifle until I have my own lathe set up and know how to use it. I've been frustrated by more than one gunsmith build what they want not what I want. Hopefully by late spring but that's being optimistic.

Are you spiking out in your Sawtooth? Or base camping near the truck and hiking in? Looks like it might be a little cool Thursday night, but temps and weather looks pretty mild for November. If the weather idiots are even close, you should have some pleasant hunting.

I'll be in my sawtooth. The locals day hunt the area but I can't rack up the backcountry miles and still hunt and they're all hunting out by 3:30 or about and the evening is all mine.

Solid advice right there!!! I realized that this is often the case. On the hunt we just got back from (mulie hunt in NM), my wife wasn't able to get way back in. She had a bad foot, and we were limited to about a mile from the trailheads, maybe 1.5. We did exactly as you are talking about. We would be sure to be back on a trail and headed out before dark, and I KNOW this may have cost us a few deer sighting in the afternoon. I wanted to stay higher and come back AFTER dark, but my wife wanted to make sure she could work her way down the mountain and be on the trails before it got dark.

Stay out..hunt hard! Good luck sir!

Made it to the nearest town to where I'll be hunting. 2463 miles since Sunday around 9am. My gear is a mess ! I literally just chucked stuff into the Yoda and hauled ass. I have gear in a duffel , my pack , in coolers , and loose in the truck ! I hope I have everything I need. It's supposed to snow tomorrow and tomorrow night and the taper off into Thursday afternoon. Depending on how my gear shakes out and the weather I'll hike in tomorrow afternoon or Thursday morning. I don't really want to get damp and cold my first day while needing to get camp set so I'm thinking it will be Thursday morning but it's all subject to change.

So you are staying at the same hotel, rekindle a lost relationship to warm up?

I feel ya on those long trips. If anyway possible take I-90 across sometimes. It is the most beautiful trip across the country I've seen.

Winter gear and four days and a wake up worth of food blowing out my DT1. I'm sure not going to weight it ! Most of it will come out when I set camp but it's not going to be pleasant hiking in. Not going to go today as by the time I would be to camp it would be getting dark. I'm just going in the morning so I have plenty of time to get set with wood and water. I'm hunting with a real chance after the first quarter mile so I'll wait for daylight to go.
