Guys , the best part of all this is the people I've associated with both online and in person. Jonboy is a really great guy with an attitude that is golden. The young man is lightyears ahead in wisdom to enjoy his youth.

I have to give most of the deer credit to Jonboy. I would never have found a small state land gem like he showed me and thats the opportunity I needed. I really thought I was going to go bust for this trip and spotting that little buck at the last was a real relief.

I'm cruising through south Georgia and getting close to home now. I just stopped into a little mom and pop country store I know and got a taste of the South. Southern sweet tea and fried chicken. There was a new young woman bbehind the counter so I threw out my standard line when she asked what I wanted. " I want what every chicken fiend wants...to go to bed with a breast in each hand and a juicy thigh in my mouth...and when I get up I want another piece ! " . It was good for a free breast in the box :D . If I move out of the South there will be things I'm going to really miss ! For guys who travel to hunt what is the regional comfort food you hit as soon as you get back? For me it's sweet tea and fried chicken.

I've been thinking about the trip and I don't think I mentioned about the inline filter attachment. I got the screw into the sawyer squeeze type with barbs. The filter worked great but I will be getting the quick connect type attachments. It would have been nice to be able to take the filter off and just put it in the bag with me.

Shrek, I was in the hills during your hunt so just got caught up on everything. My hat's off to you. You stuck it out to the end and were rewarded.

You're just experiencing everything us westerners did but we were 12 and could go back to the pickup until dad took us home. You just passed the crash course that took me from 12 yrs to 20 to get through. I guarantee if you return to the West, all of these experiences will pay off in little and big ways.

Also a shout out to Jon Boy and George- very classy acts.

I'm really kind of mad at myself. I only spent a total of 7 nights in the tent. I grant myself that the sleeping bag issue genuinely drove me out but I purchased a giant cheap -20 bag in CDA and could have gone back to the tent but the motel had already ruined me by then. I did keep hunting though and I'm happy with that. It gets hard when you are finding a bunch of nothing and there is nobody with you to keep you in the game. I don't know how those of you who hunt alone do it more than four or five days. I just didn't enjoy it alone after day four.
I would also like to mention that if I plan a long trip again I will try to plan a couple of options for different areas and terrain. I went from very thick NW Montana to more open and higher Rockies and then to open eastern Montana with rimrock and open plateaus. The changes really added to the trip. The best part of the trip though was the people I met both hunting with and along the road and in the towns. I would bet that most guys who plan a big solo trip and do it would say afterwards that it would have been much better with a friend or two along.

And... bring several pairs of gloves and beanies . I lost both and I couldn't find any replacement merino liner gloves or beanies in bfe Montana .
This is true! I have 3 left hand gloves and no rights!

Another thought , this section of Montana has a lot of tall athletically built and good looking women ! SHREK LIKES !

What were you hunting again? Ha, I agree with the second point. I found a Central Idaho girl that fit that description and married her.

I think you have had the steepest learning curve possible in your Big game adventures. There is a lot of experience packed into your trip, and I commend you for being up front with how you felt. We are fortunate to have guys like JB and George on here..

Not necessarily true... for me at least I've found this year that I scouted n hunted probably 80% solo and I found that I truly loved it.
Yeah you get a bit more spooked in the dark and there's a lot of down time but it really was quite enjoyable for me.

I think a big part of this comes from my confidence in my own hunting abilities. If I was new and felt I didn't really know what I was doing, I probably wouldn't enjoy being solo as much. Having confidence in your actions and game plan makes all the difference in the world.
