Shrek's 6.5 saum build

Straws are for scraping up the excess bedding as it squeezes out. Cut the straws at a little bit of an angel about a two inches long. Scrape along the edges and the bedding goes into the straw instead of smearing like with a paper towel.

All bedded and now drying. 80% german gray green and 20% hk black. Sure hope it cures well. This is my first try with duracoat so.....we shall see.

Cool, looks good Shrek. I just purchased a 6.5 saum from CPGfan over on LRH. Man, I can't tell you how intrigued I am with this cartridge.
This rifle is a friggin shooter---1st group out was .226.

Heads up guys , Norma just made a batch of 7mm saum brass. I have 200 pieces on the way. Kind of hurts but I should be set for a while.

Kind of disappointed. I must have miss communicated with Dave Kiff at ptg because I'm exactly .094" short of the free bore I intended. It is perfect for a Remington sa with a wyatt's extended mag box . 140's and 150's are perfect but 160'are getting down in the case. No way to fix it before I go so I'll build 150's.
For the guys who are shooting this round what trim length are you using ? 2.01 , 2.015 , 2.02 ?

Scope mounted and I'm waiting on brass . Thanks to Doug and Niel at Cameralandny . Great guys to deal with ! If this thing shoots as good as it looks I'm going to be ecstatic !

Looks really nice. I am anxious to see some target pictures and please also take a few pictures of the loaded rounds!

Thanks ! I got a pm asking about the scope. It's a Z3 4-12x50 4W BT . It weighs in at 15.8 oz on my scale which I think is reasonable for a carry rifle. I looked at the new Nightforce but I couldn't get past the weight. I'm not a true long range shooter because I don't have any place to practice . I wouldn't trust my wind calls so my self imposed limit is around 600 yards under good conditions. This scope should be able to handle that with ease. With the weight of the Nightforce I wouldn't trust the Talley lightweights so the mounts would get heavier too. Adding almost a pound for performance I can't use didn't make sense. As soon as I move west I'm building a true long range rig in something big . 338 Norma most likely.

I love NF scopes but what you said makes a lot of sense. LR shooting requires plenty of practice to learn to wind. Building a dedicated LR rig is smart when you get the chance and knowing and sticking with a maximum range for this rifle at 600 works. Later with practice you may find that the rifle, scope and you can do more than 600y given favorable conditions.
How many ranges does the turret give you? Is it three?

It has three marks you can preset for ranges but you can also just dial up and ignore the presets. I'll zero at 225yards and then set the presets for about 12"drops . It will get me within minute of elk in a hurry . Range it and dial the nearest preset and hold a little whichever way needed. No math needed at the shorter preset ranges. Should vet me close to 500 yards without a lot of thought or time . Not precise but within the vitals pretty easy.
