Looking for shot timer recommendations. Plan to shoot more this year and would like to do “hunting drills” to help train for big days ahead. I personally don’t need anything special however I would like it to work well and work for some time. Any knowledge of would be appreciated.

I prefer the CED7000. The switchology is better than others, the beep is louder, and it does better in high humidity/light rain than most others.

I have used the PAC Club Timer in the past but now I have the kestrel definitely not the cheapest option but this one has the ability to change the setting for dry fire and adjust the beep to use indoors. Waterproof and dust proof as well as drop tested.

Competition Electronics Pocket Pro. I’ve had the same one for 25+ years and never had a bit of trouble. I used to shoot a lot of IDPA matches and that’s what the ranges used.

I’ve had a couple CED 7000, and a Pocket Pro. I liked them all until they all crapped out within 2-4 years. Pretty frustrating.

I’m guessing the Kestrel would hold up.

Pocket Pro’s yes, however I have 8-9 CED7000’s that have been used extremely heavily since 2017 without issue, and a couple from when they were first introduced. That’s one of the reasons I prefer the CED as they have been significantly more reliable.

Anyone have experience with the SG Global 2? Lately I’m doing alot of USPSA drills/practice and long range rifle hunting drills. Looking for something that works for both.

I like the extra features vs the CED7000, but if the SG durability isn’t on the same level or it has a quieter beep then I’d go for CED.

Thanks!

I like the size and start button placement on this one.

We use the AMG Lab Commander at our Steel Challenge matches and I much prefer my personal timer.

My buddies and I use the Competition Electronics Pocket Pro II. This model is now retired and they have new models on their website. It has worked great for me for years.

Another vote for PAC club timer- simple and effective. Had mine for years and it’s worked flawlessly.

Thanks guys; guess I just need to determine whether I want feature packed or basic. I’ll watch demo videos of all the suggestions. I appreciate the input!

I have had battery issues with the CED7000, and the company warranted the unit, which was great, but after the second battery failure, I switched to the RangeTech timer and like it. https://www.rangetechtimer.com/

I’ve been through 3-4 CED7000 timers since 2010 ish.
Not durable. I don’t think any are except maybe the new Kestrel.

I’ve also tanked a Pocket Pro II.
They all suck for durability.

My next one will be a Kestrel

Yeah I decided not to go the $300 route bc honestly I won’t use any of the “watch myself on video” stuff. But from everything I’ve heard, the Kestrel seems to be holding up very well in rain/dust so I could see going that route if I brick one. Staying away for now just due to the enormous size & higher cost.

Decided to go with the SG Timer GO. Good small form factor for pistols, interfaces a lot like my inReach or Xero in that you Bluetooth it to the phone for settings & whatnot so less learning curve there….yeah we’ll see.

Been using my phone for rifles but looking forward to having a louder beep and a couple times the shot broke right at the buzzer so seeing definitively whether you can count that one or not is a plus. Can even work the same way for dry fire drills there too.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! At first I thought there were only three on the market but you guys helped a ton.

I will say, that RangeTech one looks awesome. Very similar to the one I bought. I do prefer to just look down at the timer & keep training though, so still prefer the GO.

Might pick one of those up just out of curiosity though.
