Tikka elk build

Looking for recommendations for known gun and load combo. I’d like to get a 243 1:8 twist tikka for elk. What bullets shoot accurately and perform well on elk?
Secondarily, I may go with 6.5 creedmore
I want high velocity and reasonable expansion but want the bullet to penetrate deep if needed. Shots under 400 yards….

Just get one of the new 6 creed tikkas and be done. 6.5 creed works for sure and plenty of ammo, but if I were to buy a rifle today it would be in 6 CM since they just launched it.

I’ve read that Gail Root designed the 95 Nosler Ballistic Tip for elk from the 243. FWIW.

I haven’t used it on elk (yet), but the new 116- and 107-grain TMK’s shoot very well from my Tikka when loaded to M+ magazine lengths. I particularly like the 116-grain option. I hope to get the opportunity to use it this year.

You could also look around and find one of the new 6 CM Tikkas, which, as mentioned above, may give you some easier heavy factory ammunition options.

108 ELDM's shoot well in my Tikka 243 1:8". I could not get 109's to shoot well. If you're looking for factory ammo, I'd go with the new 6 Creed option but you can squeeze a little extra out of the 243 with handloads...

Starting today, I'd first try the new 107 TMK's.

What length barrel on your 243?

6 creed
.243 works if you hand load, but 6 creed loads easier

Both give you more velocity out of shorter barrels than the 6.5 creed

Any hunting bullet or the Rokslide preferred bullets like TMK and ELDm/x.

I prefer the Berger hunting line for the way they penetrate a bit more, but it’s splitting hairs in the end.

Unknown munitions posted they got one yesterday. They’ll probably be rolling into more places through the summer.

Shots 400 and in? Short-ish barreled Tikka in a .24 to .26 caliber?

Boy you are in luck. You'd have to try really hard to find one of those such rifles and an ammo choice that wouldn't work well.

Where do u get these magazines? Are u hand loading?

The M+ magazines are about $35 from Beretta/Tikka. They allow up to 2.95” COAL. I am loading my 107- and 116-grain TMKs to 2.941” COAL.

PM me, and when I see any hit my distribution I am buying. I also put in an order and their buyers are getting back with me.

I sold the first four 22” I picked up.

I would have no issues hunting elk with that setup, although now the new tikka 6 creedmoor would be the easy button for the 108 eldm.
