Shorty 6 Creeds

I think you need to figure out how far you want to shoot this rifle and work backwards. I shoot 108s out of an 18” tikka and it’s a 700 yard gun right on the nose. But those are handloads at 2865.

I love my Arc gasser.

Wonder what it'd take to convert the Sig Cross to Arc? Is there a way to shim the bolt head up like guys are doing to the tikkas? Then what magazines would I need? Think the Cross takes any AICS mag.

The Arc would be great because I'd use it as a trainer and not worry about barrel life too much.

Doesn't the Dasher sometimes have feeding issues?

I don’t know why a hand loader would mess with arc, especially with rifles that the bolt face isn’t standard on. That money to monkey with that would be better spent on another 8lbs of powder.

I personally went dasher for a trainer/ hunting 6mm. I have similar stipulations as you, 500ish yds is my absolute max. I want 2k fps on target without as little recoil as possible. Dasher does that. My dasher is a 21” barrel. Prior I had a 223/ 22 creed and moved to all dasher. It’s consistent, has long barrel life, can run on varget or h4350, meets my velocity stipulations and is stupid easy to get accurate.

With dasher, br and bra your burning a miniscule amount more powder than the arc. And you won’t have to hammer on it to get the velocity you want, which is a big deal.

Mags are no longer an issue. My tikka dashers feed better than my creeds did.

6-700 in my hands.

Basically either the creed or GT will work for that.

Seems there's not a lot of difference in a 18-16" pipe.

6 arc or the smaller 6 mike mikes I'm not sure about.

Thanks guys I think I'll go ahead and order up a 6 GT in 16".

My 18" ACE 6 CM barrel shoots the factory 108 ELDM load at 2775 2825. I'm guessing my round count is 150–200 currently, so it may still speed up a bit.

Edit: I was looking at the wrong numbers, MV is 2825.

If you require 16” I think the gt is a great option.

Seems a Creed would get me 50 fps more. But I like to try the not so popular choices with things.
Don't really care about factory ammo but it's still available.

Just thinking 16" with a 7" can would have me at 21" total pipe length which means no excuses for my daughters not to carry their own rifle.

I guess the biggest question is if the Silencerco harvester Evo I have for that gun can handle a short 6mm hot rod.

Emailed them to see. Pretty sure they'll say no...

Looks like I'll be selling the wife's feet pics to fund another suppressor

It has a 16" barrel restriction on 308 and 6.5 Creed. Don't see why it wouldn't work on a 6GT.

Wow,

They said it'll handle a 16 6.5 Creed. So a 6 GT or creed should be just fine for a few shots anyways. Ha I really should have researched that can a little more before I bought it.

Short and fat is where it’s at, lol. I gotta agree on the 6 GT, BRA, and Dasher for a bolt gun. There is no reason to do a 6 arc and change the bolt face if you hand load.

The GT is going to get you a bit more velocity to reach the furthest distances. But, the 6 creed is not a bad choice at all.

My ADD went down another rabbit hole. I had AI compare the 6 GT and the 22. I really can't see a need to go to the 6 because the 22 and an 88 grain edges it out slightly with less recoil. The 88 eldm according AI will keep 1900 or so fps out to 700.

Montana doesn't have a cal restriction. My buddy in Sodak which is about the only other state I plan to hunt doesn't have a restriction either. And as Roksliders we know how effective heavy for caliber 22 bullets are.

The daughter's shots would be sub 400 yards.

I'd cut the recoil down by about 5lb compared to the 6.5 Creed. Which is a huge win for the entire family.

My 22 ARC with the 88 eldm holds 1800 to 800 at my current conditions so the 22 GT should do as well or better.

The goal is 1800 fps impact velocity right?
800 is a helluva poke and beyond my skill or my kids. Unless it's an antelope in an almost no wind condition.

Correct 1800 fps or above @ impact. My 22 ARC with the 88 holds 1800 fps to 800 with 38" of drift in a 10 mph 90⁰ wind. My wife's 22 ARC with the 75 ELDM hold 1800 to 810 with 43" of drift in a 10 mph 90⁰ wind. The 80 ELDX holds 1800 in my 22 ARC to 800 with 40" of drift in a 10 mph 90⁰ wind. These are all factory Hornady loads. My rifle is a Howa Mini Action and my wife got a Ruger American Predator Gen 2. Both have 22" barrels. There is very little difference in the distance you can drive those 3 bullets to in small cases and only a different of 5" of drift. I'm just going to shoot whatever groups the best in each rifle. Currently we are running the 75 and 88 ELDM bullets and enjoying shooting with minimal recoil.

May want to verify chatgpt’s ballistic calculations. Not saying this one is wrong (haven’t double checked it) but it’s been pretty far off the times I’ve played with it for various cartridges

I've already caught it a few times. I had it show me wind drift for the 6 and 22 GT. It was calling for 14 mils at 100 with a full value 10 mph wind. Ha no way!! Asked it to recalculate it and it corrected it. Definitely using it more as a ballpark tool.

The AI doesn’t actually do calculations… it only predicts what the next most likely word or number will be. It makes crap up all the time.

Go 22 cal and make it an SBR, lol. The smaller caliber with same powder load always wins, if you use the same BC bullet. I went from 6 BRA to 22 BR for that reason on a fun little gun.

I have a thread out there comparing loads in 14-18” 22 creeds.

My 14” 22 creed with factory 80 ELDm ammo, still not broken in. When it’s hot out, ES always goes up.

Looks like chatgpt loads to 90k psi.

You’re getting in the weeds. Get a br, gt or a dasher, reap the benefits of accuracy and ease of loading. Put 3k rounds through it in the next year and you won’t need to ask us our opinion, you will know what you want.
