Short quotes that speak volumes.

When King Philip II of Macedon (father of Alexander the Great) invaded southern Greece, he sent a message to the Spartans asking if he would be received as a friend or enemy. The Spartans’ reply was brief: “Neither.”

Offended, Philip sent a threat: “You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city.” The Spartans’ reply was just as short as before: “If.”

We used to have a mentally disabled person they cleaned the gun shop are used to frequent in Australia. Anyone who is spent any time around these people know that they often say whatever’s on their mind. This fellow and I can’t remember his name let’s call him Danny. Used to be taken to a pornography store once a week by the staff as a reward for cleaning the shop so well. Because of a staff shortage no one could take him on his normal day so they had to take him on a Thursday. His reply was I don’t buy porn on Thursdays.

One of those things that is gone on in our family privately between my wife and I as a running joke when something out of the ordinary screws up our schedule.

On the other side of pain or difficulty we are introduced to our other self.

Do not ruminate stressful situations. The brain doesn’t know the difference and keep you in that state of stress.

Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

“You cannot put too much water in a nuclear reactor.”

I use this phrase for all the new lawyers in our law firm. It illustrates the folly of immediately assuming that you see the true answer without looking at alternative meanings.

Do any of them understand it? I'm confused.

We do real property and contracts. Most people immediately assume it means one of two options.

1. You can pour as much water into a reactor as you want without consequences; or

2. You better not put too much water into the reactor as there will be catastrophic consequences.

Most people don’t see both options. There is no correct answer and illustrates what we do. We try to use language that is concise and not ambiguous.
