Look in to the Vortex Optics Edge Classes in Barnveld, WI. You won't be disappointed with the knowledge, facilities or instructors, great people and great company!

Remember you are the 1% (using the info from Form’s post).

For the 99%, too much class time would be spent just getting folks’ rifles ready for the class, assuming they brought enough correct ammo.

Don’t need to be a WKR to figure out how to apply the lessons learned from a class to all of your current and future firearms. You wouldn’t keep taking the class for every new firearm that you get.

But if someone is hell bent on using their own stuff, it is entirely doable. Just be prepared to pony up the cash for a one on one course. I went this route and was well worth it. Am going to see if I can do a “refresher” session or two this summer.
Huh? If I’m going to a shooting school, I’m taking MY gun! Why practice with someone else’s? You aren’t taking that gun into the field. Practice makes permanent. And practice like you hunt.
If a school is teaching multiple people at once and have a program to get through they don't have time to work out issues with everyones gear that isn't proofed/loses zero/doesn't dial correctly/different lots of ammo/ etc etc etc. They are doing you a favor by removing a variable/impediment to your learning.

If I'm going to learn shooting skills that's what I want to learn. Added bonus would be to learn how to set my personal gear up right when I get home to practice the skills.

Still disagree. If I’m going to a shooting school, I don’t care about others and what they might have to do. I care about my learning. Maybe that’s why I’ve avoided such a school. The public annoy me often. If I was gonna do this, it would need to be 1 on 1. I want my own stuff used and I wouldn’t want my valuable time wasted by Bubba and his Vortex.

I have also set a 2023 goal to attend a shooting school / training. What do you all think of Gunsite and their 270 rifle class? It seems like they shoot a LOT and it looks like a really good course to ingrain great rifle handling and quick shooting skills. Anyone taken that class?

@SDHNTR what about this thought??……, that the school experience also allows folks to meet other folks from across the country that share the same interest. Share hunting stories/experiences, get to know & learn from instructors that are bonafide expert marksman, talk about equipment owned, enjoy a cold beverage in the evenings, make a friend/future contact, & have some laughs and an overall good time. Any value in that?

Yes, absolutely. For most. Valid point.

90th percentile? Nah, a person that actually has a zeroed rifle that they have shot this year, with ammo that is the same type/kind they are hunting with, would put them in the 99th plus percentile.
Concur with the 99th percentile assessment.

It blows my mind the kind of stuff I would see guys do leading up to rifle season in WI. I was back visiting my parents at the end of Oct and my dad and I were out at the range we belong to zeroing his rifle after I mounted a new optic and verifying DOPE for both our rifles. I had my chrono set up and a guy came over wondering what it was…turned out he had no idea that velocity had any impact on ballistics or that there was such a thing as a ballistics calculator. StrelokPro blew his mind. Made sense considering he was shooting 4 different types of ammo in varying grain weights and MVs because “that’s what was cheap and on the shelf”. Another guy shows up, grabs his rifle out of the back seat, walks up to the bench and shoots three rounds without hanging a target. He stands up, looks at me and says “that’ll do” then tosses the rifle back in the truck and drives away.

I’ve talked to many guys at the local range before deer season that are sighting in their gun or checking it from the last time they shot it 365 days ago. Have seen some trying to group different grain bullets or brands in the same grouping, others say “that’s good enough” as they have hit a 6-8” group at 100 yards with three shots. I know a handful of guys that might grab their gun once before season and wonder why they missed or wounded an animal. It’s absolutely unbelievable. The crap you see at a range is mind boggling. Thank god I can shoot as much as I want in my backyard now.
When we invite friends or family to hunt, if they haven’t shot their gun before coming and we are not confident in it, they shoot one of ours. This actually happened this past weekend while thinning does. My rifle was passed around in the blind and dropped 5 deer. I’m not tracking a deer because your gun isn’t dialed in.

There is a guy in North Texas that does hunting style classes. He is on the Texas hunting forum.
I know you’re leaning towards the hunting scenario, but I know some of the guys that do the JTAC class in Oklahoma. These guys can flat out shoot and are extremely good. Tate is just down the road from me. It does lean more towards PRS, but these guys do a lot of hunting.

I also agree with 99% assessment. And that guy you might see struggling at public range 'sight in' day at least made an effort, but there are some who don't even do that....

Another observation on classes - I thought I was ready for my first Precision Long Range class (nope) but instructors worked on specific things with me that really helped.
