So what you’re telling me is, this would be a great choice???

Nightforce ATACR 4-16x50 .1 MRAD Mil-R Scope C543

I’ll be out there with a $350 SWFA 6x gen2 mil-quad scope on each of my rifles. If I could not get one of those, I’d use a 10x at the same price.

I know it’s preached over and over…..but could a person that is familiar with moa, effectively shoot this corse with a moa sfp scope?
IMHO, you’d be fine for most of the class, and even the part where you can use RF bino’s with ballistics in them. Where I would have problems is when you are estimating (e.g., wind calls, velocity truing, etc.). Even doing that, it is certainly doable, just going to be much slower. My $.02

I think you’ll get more out of the class using a ffp mil scope. Like others have said you’ll probably end up switching during the class as you realize the moa scope you have is making things unnecessarily difficult. Better to just familiarize yourself with mil beforehand, or at least bring mil scopes and learn it during the class.

I have the FFP 4-16x42 version of that one and it's great but heavy as fudge and the reticle is tiny up to 10x. Good catch on the SFP on that model T_widdy.

I try to validate the purchase of that scope from time to time by putting it on something and shooting it but I'm usually shooting a Maven RS1.2 or 3-9 SWFA.

If you're mil curious the swfa is a good point of entry because of cost.

And what’s great is no need to “upgrade” if one ends up liking mils. I have a slight preference to my SWFA mil reticle when compared to my maven Mil. I shoot both very often

After my class, I pulled my Maven RS1.2 off my 6 creed, and put on a 3-9 SWFA. I truly enjoyed the less weight and smaller size of the SWFA for hunting this year over the Maven. I had zero problems getting an antelope @ 495 yards with the SWFA.

If you're mil curious....

I love this dude. ^^

If you're mil curious before the class, you're gonna be the RuPaul of milradians after.

IMO, it's worth having a dialable FFP mil scope with windholds in the reticle before the class. It's a small investment to be able to get comfortable with the idea by putting 1k+ shots downrange. The information will be more tailored to you and you won't be frustrated/distracted trying to make conversions in your head. No question, it's a benefit.

Please educate me: why is FFP better?
