Whatever shoots well. Hornady 105gr HPBT or 108gr ELD-M are usually good.
I am about the buy 1000 "AAC 5.56 NATO Ammo 77 Grain OTM" but I have no idea if they "shoot well" in my 223. I have 500 55g Berry's that I know shoot pretty well, and am wondering if I should just use the Berry's for the "close" 100-200 stuff, and buy 500 of the 77 ACC?

Thanks! I only have the 6 ARC. Since I'm in Colorado, I'm unsure about getting a .223 due to the regulations here. For now, I'm considering renting one. I'm just trying to decide which ammunition to bring and how much of each.
You don’t hand load I’m assuming?

Hell, I’d try to find a bunch of the 106 2nds for what people paid for them (less than the $0.25 I have into my pile of 224 ELDs).

Brass may be more expensive I guess.

I’d prefer to shoot a 6ARC over a 223 for a trainer.

Those AAC 77’s shoot decent to very well in every tikka I have seen. However, anything that shoots well is fine for at least half the rounds.

Here is my setup:
TIKKA T3X ACTION
UM TIKKA BOLT HANDLE + KNOB
ROKSTOK
FACTORY TIKKA DBM + MAG
ACE STEEL BARREL 20″ 7.5TW
THREADED MUZZLE + CAP 5/8-24
“VANGUARD VERDE” CERAKOTE
6 LBS 7.3 OZ – 39.75 IN LONG

Suppresor if you can, AB Warthog is great for a cheap option, better yet borrow one of the new UM cans and report back. Get that Maven on sooner than later, you may find that you need LOP extension on the stock which requires a trip back to UM. No issue on LOP for me w a SWFA 3-9

FWIW I’d take a cheap can and SWFA 3-9 over a Maven and no can. The Maven is very nice and there are better can options pending budget.

Maybe try Turo. I’ve never used it but I have buddies that have multiple times and say it’s great.
Turo is the way. Bozeman airport hit them with a pretty high tax in the last year or two for airport drop offs though. Think it’s $150-200, can’t remember. Go through turo and pick up somewhere other than airport. Taxi or shuttle to car pick up, drops the prices back down to normalish.

I don't have load, but I would like to get into it. Thanks for the advice!

Ya $538 for a tacoma. Everything else even small cars were like $1800
Sounds like a good business opportunity for a local to run a shuttle service
Paid a little over a grand for the “managers special” for the week before yours. I bet an uber would be similar or more.

I may or may not live in western MT. Hell $1000 bucks a pop ill pick you guys up with caviar and champagne and take you to Big Timber.. pickup filled with 4 guys will pay for a ticket to the class and ill just join you for the week!

Another option for 77gr ammo, @h2so4 provided some Bone Frog .223 ammo loaded w 77gr hpbt for testing. My Tikka liked it… 18” barrel. Avg 2615fps. Max spread around 50fps over 20 rounds.
Shot 10 fairly quick, checked group
Shot another 10 faster, checked group
0.2 mil Right adjustment
Plugged in a BC of 0.350 and walked it out to 600, windage missed 1st shot at 6, corrected and no drama.

Glad that worked well! One minor correction to avoid potential confusion, the load I sent was 5.56.

Keep your eyes peeled for another 5.56 option early next month. I think you’ll like it 👍🏼

I have a sinking feeling in my stomach that my UM Low Rings on my Tikka are going to not work well at this class in my Rokstock :( I just did a bit of dry fire, and if I am directly behind the stock, my eye is too high 😳 ... canted a bit, and it's "just right". I believe I remember in one of the "Form" comments on another post, he showed pics of guys "starting like this" (canted) and correcting to behind. Wondering if there will be Mediums to buy at class? Seems that this little "nuance" would have material impact on the remainder of the class?

What say you @Formidilosus and @Ryan Avery? How would you recommend planning for this? I'd hate to spend $5K and then have the shooting be less than optimal because I had rings that were too low (or high) for that matter. Insight is appreciated.

Just remind me ahead of time dig the class and I will bring spare rings.

Shooting my .223 today w TO84s/ SWFA 3-9/Rokstock I realized I’d likely prefer the mediums. Spend the $ and order them. Worst case you have to resell them on here and lose a couple bucks.

@Ryan Avery any update on those LH Tikka 223's? I am guessing 0% chance of getting one prior to class, but man, if I could!

On that note, what 223's are the LH's shooting at the class? Or are they shooting some other caliber as the "practice gun"?

Fingers crossed, I'd love to have mine before class. If not I'll be bringing my LH 223 savage axis and hope for the best

I looked back at the thread, and it seemed like August of this year was when they were gonna be the production run, so I’m guessing We’re gonna be using what we’ve got.
