Sewing merino wool?

So I have this merino neck gaiter from icebreaker that is great, except it's about 2 feet long!! I'd love to double about 4-5" of it over and sew it in place, but am worried it will compromise it. Anyone have any advice on sewing a 100% merino garment so I don't screw it up?
