Has anyone used Sevr broad heads. Thinking about trying them out this season. Any input would be helpful! Thanks.

My favorite mech head was the the Ulmer edge, which the Sevr basically replicated so when the Sevr's came out, I had to buy some immediately. They flew well but had terrible blood trails on 2 deer last year. As minimal as I've seen. 1 was lung. The other was high. So partially my fault.

Same here. I’m considering their NC hypodermic. I have been shooting the NAP Spitfire Maxx (with good results) but was considering others this year for antelope and whitetail. I’m looking for long range accuracy and maybe more blood.

I am shooting the new Sevr. First year with them, but I shot one elk and two deer with the Ulmer Edge and had zero issues.

I have heard stories about quartering away shots being rough, but it’s rough on all mechanicals at that angle.

Sounds like 2 solid reasons for a bad blood trail and neither one are the Broadheads fault.

I am going to try them this year as well. Still kicking around which head to go with for elk. 125gr 1.5” or 2.1”. I wish they would have made the 1.7” a titanium 125gr.

I used them last year and killed one bull elk and a doe. Done the job on both, not great blood trails but I'm used to the blood trails left from my nap spitfires. The biggest problem I had was the stupid little rubberband that holds them closed. This was te first and last time I'll ever use anything that requires a rubberband. Every time I go to put an arrow back in the quiver or bump a limb the rubberband would get cut. To me I didn't see any advantage over my spitfires.

@Scrappy, are you saying the Spitfires offered better blood trails on similarly hit animals? I’m shooting Spitfire Maxx’s currently, which I really like, but was considering Sevr’s for more blood and longer range accuracy. Now you have me thinking.

Like mentioned I hate using anything that needs a band or collar or o ring to hold it closed. I have a friend that likes the old ulmer edge and used it with good success.

I tried spitfires and fatal steels. Last season and went with the fatal steels since they flew better for me, plus I like 3 blade holes.

I have used hypodermics in the past but hated the collar. With the new NC I may give it a try since the rear deploy seems more efficient.

I'm surprised to hear that guys are experiencing bad blood trails with them. I don't have any experience as I've always shot rage with great results. Would have expected the same from Sevr. (Definitely pumped that rage found a way to do away with the collars this year, nothing more annoying)

How did the fatal steels work out? I used grim reaper in the past and had some problems with them not opening.

The doe should have been blood everywhere with the quarting away shot like I have shot several deer in the same spot in the past. The bull was a head on shot which I have never taken before but as he wheeled around after the shot I could see the blood spray. A few bounds and the blood quickly went down to sparse. It was still fairly easy to follow but the wound seemed to close up around the arrow quickly. So yes in my experience I do feel I have had better blood trails with spitfires.

For those concerned with the rubber band issue, use two when hunting for piece of mind.

I also didn’t have any blood trail issues, in fact just the opposite. I have had easy and large blood trails with them.

The fatal steel worked fine on 2 caribou and a black bear, all pass throughs. I’m not sure about them not opening. A couple friends have used Grim Reaper for many years and swears by them. I have seen many kills with them and usually the blades are closed when we find the Broadhead. They do flip shut easily and if the arrow is pulled out at all they close. I don’t think we have ever seen a “failure “

Just got the 13 pack...seem consistent in terms of manufacturing. The three I weighed were all at 97.7 gr and spun perfectly. But the flight test at 70 will be make or break...they have to outperform my Ramcats. And then hopefully they will prove their worth on an antelope before deer/elk season. I was kind of relieved to hear Rosin liked these...he seems pretty particular, savvy, and a dedicated long range shooter.

@Gumbo and @RosinBag keep us posted. I picked up a pack of Spitfire Maxx’s today, but I will sit on them pending more Sevr testing from y’all.

God and wife willing I will be sending some into foam at long range tomorrow. Will post my thoughts when I do. I'm also curious to hear what Rosin says, he seems to know his shit and tell you what he really thinks.

I liver shot a buck with one last year he didn’t make it 60 yards, but little to no blood at all. The last 20 yards or so there was no blood. Where I shot him were a couple half dollar size spots then I was following bb sized dots then pin heads then it stopped, the entrance and exit closed up and he bled out internally. Still did it’s job and he didn’t go far, better shot placement may have had different results but I have heard similar stories from others shooting this head

I have 2 other friends that have had similar results to me. VERY little blood.
I really wanted this to be my broadhead of choice for many years to come, as I really like the design. And I love how you can put the set screw in and target practice with them. Unfortunately, they dont produce blood trails.
