Setting up a Tikka T3x .308

So my trip to Euro Opitcs didn't turn out as planned. Looked at scopes but didn't come home with one. Brought home a Garmin Chrono and a 16" barreled Tikka with a wood stock. Now I have 2 Tikka's I need scopes for.

Huron- this scope is out for me. The eye box just isn't going to work for me.

Accupoint - liked the reticle on this. I'm leaning towards a 3-9x40 Mil dot for the 16" barreled gun as a lightweight strait up eastern deer stand rifle. Shots under 200 yards,

Looked at Credo/HX - this where my dilemma is. This would be for the 20" barreled Tikka for more field hunting shots most likely close to sunset or within 30 mins after sunset. I'd like to be able to dial elevation for this.

PSA has the 2-10x56 HX with the Precision hunter reticle for $630. Pros- can get in Green, only 10 MOA lights up. Con - scope mount height required, doesn't have parallax adj. I think I prefer this reticle to the MOA center dot on the 2.5-15x42 and 4-16x50 (PSA Price $800).

2.5-15x42 or 4-16x50 Pro has parallax adjust, lower mount height. Con entire 30MOA reticle lights up, only available in Red with holdover. How important is parallax adjustment

To my door the 2-10x56 will be about $180 less than either of the 2.5-15x42 or 4-16x50

I already said it, but I agree that the 3-9x40 AccuPoint is right on the money for your little rifle. I wish it and the 2.5-10x came in mil/mil.

For dialing, I preferred the regular Credo to the HX when I compared them at a gun shop and online.

Good luck with the search!

Am I missing something? The link above for 3-9 are all capped turrets from what I can see.

Yes, sorry about that. I was linking from my phone. They are capped turrets, but easy enough to adjust if you remove the caps. I totally understand not being comfortable with that setup.

The Credo 2-10x36, 2.5-15x42, or 2.5-15x56 are more your jam. A good price on those new is at least $800 to $1000 though…

This was one I really liked in the store:

This was the other scope I really heavily considered, before deciding that I didn't need that much magnification:

Ultimately I decided that - at my price point - if I wanted illumination, I would settle for not dialing. I'm very happy with my SWFA non-illuminated scopes.

Thanks for the reply, Just got done ordering the 4-16x50 from PSA, that was an ordeal in itself.

Decided on the 4-16x50 for the 20" barrel after reading some post about the eye box on it compared to the 2.5-15x42.

Looks like I can go with the UM Low mounts with the 50mm so mount height should be an issue.

Eventually will get a 3-9x40 accupoint for the 16" barrel

I hope it all works out for you! Look forward to seeing the finished product and some targets!
