Interested in insurance for home/car/ccw protection. I live in a very 2A unfriendly city/state.

Any advice?

What would “ccw insurance” do to protect you if an Anti 2A State DA who was hell bent on ruining your life filed charges of some sort? What would an insurer do to earn that premium you paid them?

Check into the "insurance" programs. From what I hear, what you really want is a service that provides a lawyer on retainer. Insurance companies cannot insure a criminal act, and of course, if you need the insurance there's a decent chance it's because you have been charged with a criminal act. There are more than a few accounts of people being denied services because they had been charged with crimes associated with their self defense incident.

I have a subscription to “Right to Bear” as they are somewhat local to me. It’s not really insurance, but more of 24/7 access to a lawyer in case you have an incident so you don’t mess up and say the wrong thing to the police.

I’d focus on what to say initially to responding officers. Learn what the related statutes actually say and use that wording. “”I responded to an immediate threat to my life with force required to mitigate that threat”. I’ve never looked into it. So that is a WAG, but if I carried that is the information I’d want to know and base my initial answer on. Then I’d say I want to have legal counsel present for any further discussion.

One thing we all need to remember is that no one is required to make a statement to the authorities (or anyone else, by the way) immediately after an event. I know that everyone wants to know "the facts," but in those initial moments after a stressful event (such as a shooting incident), our brains are not functioning optimally. Studies have shown that waiting two sleep cycles after a shooting results in a much more accurate statement. Remember, the Fifth and Sixth Amendments are your rights and should not be surrendered without serious contemplation.

I'm pretty sure that they provide funds for legal defense

I could see defense in civil court, but criminal would surprise me. That civil defense could be huge though. Family can sue you and you’d spend a pile on defense even if they get laughed out of court eventually. Kind of like malpractice insurance- covers that part of it, but if a prosecutor is after you for criminal charges. They might have wording in the contract that lets them tell you you’re on your own.

Obviously all the policies probably vary a great deal in what they cover and the amounts, but a quick google search appears to show that they can help with criminal and civil defense fees if you get charged with something after using a gun for self defense, depending on the policy and your situation. Which tracks with what I found when I looked into it myself a few years ago

That might be the kick in the nuts for a lot of people to move, including me. I can only imagine how the insurance vultures will swoop in to really gig everyone.

They tell you not to say anything to law enforcement until you get them on the phone. It’s been mentioned above, but in a traumatic event people can say some wild things. All of which will probably be held against you regardless of whether you were right or wrong. The police aren’t necessarily your friends in a self defense situation.

I'm glad the OP is looking at CCW insurance while in an anti 2A state. You are already ahead of the game. I'm not an attorney and I don't play one on TV, but I will suggest doing lots of research to find the coverage specific to your needs (attorney fee caps, loss of wages coverage of needed, liability coverage should you lose a civil suit, etc.). Once you establish your specific needs, then find coverage that fits your budget.
I think John Correia on his Active Self Protection YouTube Channel has a segment on CCW insurance. Do as much research as possible and read all policy fine print to ensure you are signing up for what you require at the price you are willing to pay.
If you happen to be retired law enforcement, PORAC RAM is one of the most affordable CCW insurance out there. It does require you to be retired LEO and it is very basic, it only covers firearms (no OC, Mace, Taser, etc) and it only covers legal defense aka attorney fees.
If it applies to your needs, you might consider a policy that also covers less lethal (hands fists, OC, Mace, Taser, etc) in addition to your firearm. Legal fees can really stack up.
Good luck with your search, be diligent and be safe.

I just read on the Gun University site that WA does not ALLOW you to buy CCW insurance. Unbelievable.
