So in looking into the Seekins Element Hunter, you need to buy both short and long action rifles in order to take advantage of the full range of bolt and barrel swap options? I can see where this would save weight and reduce size for the short-action calibers. However, I would like to see a single rifle offered, more like the AXMC system that I've got, allowing more multicaliber functionality from a single platform.

It was the guns america video where they interviewed Glen Seekins. Came out about two weeks ago. They go over the changes and at some point he mentioned they new chassis adds about a pound.
Seekins told me .5lb in an email today. Even that, for a PH3 will bring it up to 7.4lbs bare. Add a scope and suppressor, even rather light ones and we're right at 9lbs. Not the worst, and even a good thing for the magnums, imo, but that'd be the heaviest hunting rifle I own. It'd get left home 9/10 times.

It is kinda weird that they haven’t communicated the weight. I mean, they have rifles built, what’s the problem with putting them on the scale?

I don’t mind the add’l weight to help with recoil reduction but others might feel different.

Just buy the long action then.

Heavy enough without using a long action for all short actions. Hard pass.

Problem with buying the long action is that the short action mags won’t feed. Atleast this is what Seekins CS told me. Net net, LA for all long action calibers and SA for all short action calibers.

Just grab both platforms and swap barrels as desired…

Side note…I do think it’s cool that they are offering a 16” 223 Wylde barrel!!!

I just got two Tikka rifles back from Kampfield Customs for cutting and treading. I already have a few Seekins rifles so I know the quality and customer service. With the New PH3 out I see no reason for me to spend the money on building up my Tikka rifles and swapping stocks.

When you say the short action mags wont feed are you referring to short action magnum cartridges in the long action magazine or that the short action magazines dont work in a long action? The latter seems somewhat obvious but curious on the former.

Seekins CS told me that short action calibers would work with a long action but I’d have to single feed rounds because SA Mags won’t work with Long Actions.

Their guidance was buy a SA for all SA offered Calibers and buy a LA for all LA offered Calibers.

You still need to consider boltface swaps as well…

They also mentioned that there will be more calibers coming, which will be supported by aftermarket barrel companies.

Good information here. They could design a spacer/shim for the SA magazines so they would fit the LA actions. But their price point is low enough that people could buy both an LA and a SA should they desire. And there wouldn't need to be more than three or four bolt faces. IMO, modularity that facilitates barrel and caliber swaps and changes has a promising future with hunting rifles.
