Out of curiosity, are you putting your stove pipe around the damper piece, or in side of the damper piece? There was a video out there a few years ago of someone setting the stove up with the pipe inside of the damper (not us) which is not how it was designed. The pipe is supposed to go around the damper which, I would guess, would get rid of both issues. Photo example below. Feel free to email me [email protected] if you have other issues. We also may have some dyneema tape laying around that i could send you to get a patch on that.

How are you guys adding a secondary baffle or arrestor to the top of the pipe?

I just slide the old style damper/arrestor on the top of the pipe without the damper in it.

Cutting a piece of steel mesh screening out is the best way to add another spark arrestor. You just have to keep an eye on it and make sure that it doesn't get clogged up and bloke the out flow of smoke.

FYI, I have a new SXL being delivered tomorrow. My medium box stove just wasn't quite enough for my Redcliff when I'm with the kids. Looking forward to some overnights on the river this spring!
