Ok gotcha....yeah we don't get snow up here or wind so we don't have to contend with things like that so I don't know how it might work for you in those situation....

It's a good thing we're all different or the world would be boring as heck. I could always cut the ends off of size 8 shoes to get them to fit and be fine I guess too, or just go with bigger shoes that fit. Yes, both are options. The funny thing is......those same 8's fit a lot of people without cutting the ends off.

I probably over-engineered my solution compared to Luke's. I got some small webbing and put a tensioner on it and then sewed the webbing into a loop. Then that loop could be "tied" onto the stake loops. Then just string up some line with a loop in the end and you are good. You can kind of see it in the photo below. What I liked about this way is you are pulling in the direction you want the tent to go and you can tighten and loosen one handed. Again, probably over-engineered for what is really needed but it works.

I just ordered about 4 dozens of those line locks with 100 feet of 2mm Dyneema cord to do the same thing on my Cimmeron and also on my 10x10 Flat tarp. I think it makes it easiest to adjust when your trying to get a right with the right amount of space or adjustment. I love those cord locks on the Kifaru Stuff sacks. They work really well. Cant wait to set this up. Looks like you got yours from Zpacks?

i have yet to spend time in the luna 6 i recently picked up but from setting it up in the backyard tight to the ground in the daytime sun, it is a green house
my luna 6 has a snow/sod skirt on it that is roughly 8" or so
i pitched it high with that portion dangling down to the ground and it makes a huge improvement in size but i think will also allow air flow and offer rain protection to a point
correct me if i am wrong,,,,
even with the top vent open,
i can't imagine being able to sleep my family in it with it tight to the ground and not having condensation problems
it seems like you would have to have it pitched suspended like Luke showed, unless in colder weather while using a stove to keep the condensation minimal.
Luke, which nest is that you are running in the pic?

i need either one nest for my family of 4 and the dog, or two nests like you have in the picture you included in this post

Yeah, it works really well for only a minor addition of weight. It really makes it much easier to pitch and gap. Also, as Luke mentions, without the guylines, it would be very difficult to pitch on uneven terrain or around stuff. I'm not sure where I got mine from.

The only issue with two nests will be getting into them. As I think I mentioned before in this thread, look at the photos from Luke and myself. The doors of the nests face the center pole of the shelter and the fronts of the nests are usually pretty close to the pole. You can back them up a little but not a whole lot. Now, looking at the photos, imagine another nest on the other side. The nest would fit fine but getting to it might be a challenge, especially if the weather wasn't cooperating and you couldn't open a fly all the way. If going the two nest route, you might see if you can have them customized to have a zipper access on the side.

Now, if you have 4 people and a dog and are camping in warmer weather, pitching it way up off the ground may give enough room to back the nests away from each other. Also, not sure how big the dog is, but these nests are pretty cozy for two people. I know at one point SO had mentioned possibly making a 3/4 or full nest for the Cimarron but I haven't seen anything on it lately.

If you want to play around with using cheaper non-custom nests, you could try the Sea to Summit nests. A 2 person nest would easily fit on one side of a Luna 6 with room to spare. There is no door or floor, so you can put it on a piece of Tyvek, and then to enter you just lift the bottom and crawl in from any direction. I replaced the metal tent pole in my 2 person Sea to Summit with a carbon arrow piece, and it weighs nothing for 2 people.

My dogs get in every nasty mud hole they can find, so they sleep outside the nest, but you could get them their own single Sea to Summit nest I suppose?

The great thing about this setup also, it that you can easily move and hang these nests in the afternoon under a shade tree where it is cooler than under a shelter (my wife does this to read in the backcountry while I am either napping or exploring).

i think i will get the 3/4 luna 6 nest from bear paw
that will give me some room to stash packs and shoes and the dog under the cover of the luna 6 but outside the nest

my wanting to get separate nests was for the simple reason of going solo if i wanted a nest i would not have to carry the 3/4 nest
that sea to summit nest sounds like it would be the ticket for solo

I had a Luna 6 and the full Luna 6 nest. I actually had BPWD add an additional foot to the height and it helped a lot for room and wind deflection. It handled some 40 mph winds and torrential rain up in RMNP with no problem. I'm 6-4 and we were able to fit my wife and three kids in the nest with no problem.

I decided to sell it and buy the LBO setup with the Base-tarp-vestibule. I have a 3/4 Luna 4 net that I put the kids in and then I sleep in the vestibule/tarp in a bivy. I do have a stove under the tarp as well.

My wife says she is done tent camping after the winds and rain we saw at RMNP. She wants a retro airstream now. I might have to pull a second mortgage for one of those.

The LBO is great as it so modular and works for so many conditions, solo and small group. But it is probably to small for the 6-6 guy.

Here is a space representation. I've never actually had the people in mine but this may give you an idea. On the left side is a two person nest and to the right is the stove and a bivy.

Yeah, Sawtooth would be a great option and probably easier for that third person to get in and out.

That's a Borah bug bivy. They offer it with a side zip that comes up one side and across the chest. I had them customize it so the zipper comes up one side, across the chest and down the other side. That way, I can get it in much easier (old joints mod) and I can leave it fully unzipped an just fold the top down to my feet if I feel like it.

Mine arrived today and I set it up in the yard. Very impressed with the quality of build. Hope to get it seam sealed tomorrow and out camping on the weekend. I initial thoughts are it's huge, I'm used to 1 or 2 person tents and this thing is huge in comparison. I'm thinking with a stove 3 people should be doable, tight with packs but those can stay outside. Really excited about this tent. The website said 3-4 weeks lead time and I had mine in two and a half.

My new Cimarron arrived on Thursday. It is much bigger than I expected. Without a stove I believe it will easily accommodate three or four, especially if it is pitched a few inches off the ground. However, I can also see why some would say it is a bit tight with two and a stove. Nevertheless, I believe it has plenty of room for my intended use.

After camping in Yellowstone and Glacier these past 10 days, I don't know what to think. Here we are (my wife, two kids, and myself) sleeping in my 14x16 wall tent with what I would classify as "adequate" room. And every single other tent that was setup in the campgrounds was absolutely tiny in comparison. An entire family of 5 trying to fit in a 4x6 tent in almost every direction I looked. Some tents so small I wouldn't put a dog in them. Not sure how they do it.......but whatever. It appears I'm the odd man out. Just not sure what that says about society today. I like my room and not sleeping in a coffin. Kind of like the skinny jeans or pants debate. If I don't fit.....they don't do me much good, and I don't like wearing yoga pants for hunting or otherwise either. Same for my shelters.

Has anyone ran a cimmaron with 3 people and a stove? I'm really debating picking up one of their tipi and stove combos. 99% of the time it would be for myself and my wife but my brother might tag along with us this year. Im 6', my bro is a little shorter than myself and my wife is about 5'8".. I don't want anyone melting their fart sack on the stove...lol
