Are you guys seeing mature bucks? Any rutting action? What general part of the state are you in? Would love to hear how it's going out there, thanks!

The unit I was in last weekend didn't see or hear of a buck below 11k, but go above 11k and there were bucks around. Still didn't seem interested in does from what I saw. I'm really hoping this weather this week fires them up, heading back up this weekend.

Meanwhile, this guy was in my neighborhood on the front range herding does around people's yards (and the road) , so hopefully that's a good sign🤣

Saw a young immature buck on private start to show some signs of pre rut activity. Nose down sniffing does butts, but that was it. The weather coming in should help out.

I grabbed an OTC elk tag and also used the time to scout my deer unit. Found a few bucks, nothing rutting. They were either solo or in pairs. Saw several doe groups with no bucks as well.

I was out before the storm hit though. It was pretty warm while I was there.

Hunted 5 days + 2 scout days in a Colorado OTC unit 8k-12,200, Elk and Bear tag. Back country style with the last day hunting from the truck. 21 Mule does, 3 Mule Bucks which includes finding a dead buck (1.5 year old) that was shot the night prior and ran into the hunter not long after...along with a grunt and bust at 25 yards on a smaller mule buck. Everything below 10K Mule Deer wise in my unit. Did not seem like they were really rutting yet. Majority were in very tight timber 2+ miles from trails and didn't seem to care about my presence.

Other trip notables. 2 Mountain lions including one at less than 15 feet while walking a forest road back to my campsite. Headlamp, yelling, and hiking sticks scared the cat off within a few seconds but easily the scariest moment I've had in the woods. Other was seen via Binos

3 Bull moose, 3 cow moose, One opening day right at shooting light, another jumped from it's bed Mid-day, the final bull out mid-day eating just before the storm rolled in.

3 Elk Cows and 2 Bulls. Couldn't make it happen on the last day with the one of the bulls, the other was 3+ miles away. Moose and Elk all above 11K

Also crossed paths with Turkey, Fox, grouse, fresh bear scat, Big Horn sheep(Spotter) 67,000 squirrels, 1880's rail spike, Baja Blast, very few hunters sans the last day and 5 groups of shots in 5 days with no shots heard on day 3.

Didn't fill a tag but damned if I wasn't in them the whole trip.

Deer tag for 3rd season so all I should see then is Elk.

Nothing worse then seeing a tank in town..I guess I don't blame him. I'd be chasing the gals in town too.

I’m not seeing any mature bucks with the does yet. Found tracks & beds of some mature bucks near where the does are hanging out after the storm but that’s the closest I’ve gotten to finding anything larger than a forky on public.
